INTRODUCTION
The Northeastern Armed Forces (NEAF) are the combined military forces of the NEU. They are also historically known as the United States Reclamation Force, or simply just as the USRF, especially to the average wastelander. The USRF consists of five service branches: the Reclamation Army, Reclamation Navy, Homeland Corps, Crisis Corps, and Foreign Legion; with each of the different military services being assigned a specific role within the NEAF. The Reclamation Army, which is the oldest branch, having been established in 2116, is traditionally used for land-based operations, and historically has also been used for the purpose of restoring order to the wasteland, which it still does to some extent to this day through the Lakeside Division. All of the branches answer to the Department of War, a government entity established after the 2164 Constitutional Crisis, intending to give the Armed Forces more autonomy in completing its objectives, without the restraints of excessive bureaucracy and red tape hindering them from working as efficiently as possible.

THE EARLY MILITIA
Early Militia is an umbrella term used to describe the NEU military, or rather the factions fighting on behalf of the NEU, before the establishment of the USRF in 2116. This ragtag force was composed of US and EU military veterans, remnants of first responders, militant groups, and civilian volunteers that took up arms against raider warbands. The Early Militia was notably disorganized and heavily decentralized, leading to a lack of coordinated efforts during the Thirty Year War. Units acted independently and on their own volition, following orders from local warlords who had varying objectives, strategies, and ulterior motives for their participation in the war, be it for supplies or power. This decentralization is a significant reason why the Thirty Year War dragged on, with each individual faction under the NEU banner focusing on capturing and controlling parts of cities for their own gain. Due to the decentralization of the Early Militia, joint missions were rare and usually only undertaken as part of larger operations arranged by local warlords from the various factions. Issues with communication and logistics dominated the Early Militia, with many units struggling to secure adequate supplies or reinforcements, at times resorting to conscripting the local population to continue the fight against the raiders, with little pay or equipment to follow.
EARLY OBSTACLES
The USRF emerged as a vital institution in the infancy of the NEU, at the conclusion of the Thirty Year War. In the aftermath of this conflict, the NEU faced many economic hardships and saw many hurdles that needed to be overcome, which effectively hindered the military's ability to adequately train and equip new service members. In addition to these difficulties, the USRF found itself relying on a decrepit stockpile of mismatched gear sourced from various outlets and old military depots. Pre-Flash US military equipment, while still functional and highly effective, largely grew out of favor with USRF soldiers, since most of the weapon systems and equipment required specialized replacement batteries that could no longer be sourced or produced. Moreover, scavenged surplus equipment from old depots proved to only be a bandaid solution which failed to offer consistency or reliability. In the early-2100's, when relations still had yet to sour between the SU and NEU, the SU even approved a lend-lease agreement with the NEU, which supplied the USRF with Southern-made guns, uniforms, combat helmets, rigs, and even some vehicles, some of which remain in active service with the USRF to this day.

UNIFORMITY IN THE USRF
Standardization of uniforms and equipment is still a fairly recent concept for the USRF. Even in 2165, achieving a consistent, uniform appearance across all active units remains a logistical challenge that still has yet to be overcome. While the restoration of factories across the NEU in the 2130's undid years of economic recession and led to the serial production of various military equipment, it was too little, too late, and the USRF still had a massive surplus of outdated military equipment to burn through. Ideally, USRF units across all fronts would field identical uniforms and equipment, but because of years of deeply rooted corruption and incompetency within the old regime, this cannot be further from the truth. It is not uncommon to see USRF service members fielding the very same gear and equipment that their grandfathers before them used during the Thirty Year War. Curiously, a lot of the USRF's modern gear and equipment, such as the newest Service Rifles, have found their way into the hands of civilian weapon collectors and even wastelanders. It is not uncommon for deployed service members to purchase superior NEU produced military equipment from unaffiliated vendors rather than using the gear that they are issued.
The Reclamation Army (RA) is by far the largest branch in the USRF, known to employ hundreds of thousands of active-duty service members and an equally large number of civilian workers, who work around the clock to ensure that the USRF's needs are met. It is the oldest branch of the NEU's military, being founded shortly after Reclamation Day, the day in which NEU statehood was proclaimed by POTUS, and later First Triumvir, Joseph Aldine.

The Homeland Corps (HC) was the second branch of the USRF to be founded, second to the foundation of the Reclamation Army by only a few minutes. It shares an equally rich and long history, originally uniting the many militant groups that fought on behalf of the NEU under a common banner following the conclusion of the Thirty Year War in 2116. Today, the Homeland Corps primarily serves as a province-based militia to be activated in the Union's defense in dire situations. Consisting of reservists, all soldiers in this branch hold full-time civilian jobs, serving only when necessitated by law and circumstance.

The Reclamation Navy (RN) is the newest branch in the USRF, having originally served as part of the Reclamation Army's Navy Corps up until 2164, when President Étienne Dubois signed a decree which recognized the Navy as a branch of its own. In its infancy, as the branch tries to find its footing in the USRF, they have been issued repurposed Army uniforms and equipment modified for utility in naval operations. As of today, the Reclamation Navy is active in both the Great Lakes and the Northern Atlantic Ocean.

The Crisis Corps (CC) was created in line with the ratification of the Subspecies Act in 2152. The purpose of this branch is to contain disease outbreaks and combat eldritch mutants. The branch has since continued to accumulate new duties, such as disaster relief and prevention and combating rot droid uprisings.

The Foreign Legion (FL) was created to incorporate expatriates of other post-Flash states into the Northeast Union through service to the USRF. The Foreign Legion was founded as the fourth branch of the USRF during the Roanoke Conflict between the Northeast Union and Southern Union. Usurpingly, the first FL units were made up of captured Southern Union soldiers in Virginia, along with captured Greater Texan Republic Soldiers from the western skirmishes. Prior to the Foreign Legion's creation, former citizens and soldiers of other nations were previously unable to apply for NEU citizenship without fulfilling a service period within the NEU's armed forces, now being able to fulfill this requirement via service in the Foreign Legion.
