God RECEIVED His Only BEGOTTEN Son!
***What Does John 3:16 TRULY mean?
Here is John 3:16 from the KJV. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Did God GIVE His ONLY Son called God the Son who never had a BEGINNING to be crucified on the cross for the sins of the world.
Did the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son pre-exist as the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son?
Did God GIVE His only BEGOTTEN HUMAN Son, the Son of MAN, Jesus, to die on the cross for the sins of the world?
In other words, WHEN did the Son of God BECOME the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son of God?
Was the Son of God begotten in the ETERNITY PAST?
Was the Son of God begotten in the WOMB of the Virgin Mary?
Did the Son of MAN, Jesus, become the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son when God RAISED him from the DEAD and gave him eternal life?
When does the Bible ITSELF say that the Son of God was BEGOTTEN?
The Greek word translated as GAVE His Only BEGOTTEN Son ALSO means God RECEIVED His Only BEGOTTEN Son.
So then, could the God INTENDED meaning of John 3:16 be, God so loved the world that He RECEIVED His only BEGOTTEN Son up into heaven AFTER the cross and resurrection to be seated at His side to be MADE both Lord and Christ, according to Acts 2:36?
What does the WHOLE word of Almighty God teach us in the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of John 3:16?

What Does the Phrase “God GAVE His Only Begotten Son” TRULY Mean?
WHEN was the Son of God BEGOTTEN?
Who died on the cross for the sins of the world? There are no less than five choices that Christians teach as to WHO died on the cross for the sins of the world.
Obviously, all Christians agree that it was Jesus who died on the cross, but they DISAGREE as to WHO Jesus truly is.
Let me explain what I mean by listing the five main teachings among Christians concerning the meaning of the phrase “God GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son” found in John 3:16.
I will list them in no particular order. But first let us read this controversial verse of Scripture.
John 3:16-21.
“For God so loved the world, that He GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17. For God SENT not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes NOT is condemned already, because he has NOT believed in the NAME of the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son of God.
John 3:19. And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (The word “EVIL” in the Bible simply means NOT BELIEVING God to do things God’s WAY.
Yes, it also means NOT OBEYING God, but let us truly consider ALL of the meaning of EVIL in the Bible.
God told the children of Israel to go and possess the land, but they disobeyed what God said to do.
Instead of doing what God said, they sent 12 spies to see if it was POSSIBLE to possess the land.
Ten spies came back with an EVIL report saying that it is impossible to do what God said to do.
And the TWO spies who BELIEVED God over the EVIDENCE of what they SAW and said, Yahweh is WITH us and we can and we will take the land.
So then, coming to the LIGHT means speaking the TRUTH of God’s word, and remaining in DARKNESS is teaching FALSE doctrine or giving an EVIL report)
John 3:20. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (The light is the teachings of Jesus that God put in his mouth to teach the people.
So then, doing evil ALSO includes wrongly teaching FALSE doctrines.
And doing TRUTH includes walking in loves and in righteousness, but ALSO teaching the TRUTH.
The light was prophesied to come in Genesis 1:3,4, when God said, let there be light and God saw the Aleph Tav Messiah Jesus light that it was good.
The Aleph Tav, the first and the last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, are not translated.
The light coming into the world came not to CONDEMN the world that is filled with darkness and evil, but rather, the LIGHT came to translate us out of darkness and into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son
So, the light in Genesis 1:3.4 is a hidden prophecy of the Messiah Jesus)
John 3:21. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
Let me expound a little more on verses 19-21 so that you can see that the LIGHT brings TRUTH.
And those who RECEIVE or BELIEVE the LIGHT abide or REMAIN in the TRUTH.
And once you SEE the TRUTH you cannot UNSEE the truth.
The Holy Spirit bears WITNESS with your Spirit that it is God’s INTENDED truth and NOT a man-made doctrine having partial truth that misleads Christians.
But those who LOVE DARKNESS hate the LIGHT, and neither do they come to or receive the LIGHT for fear that their DOING is confused or proven to be WRONG.
And the deeds or the DOING includes everything, a person’s works, their attitude, motive, actions, beliefs, and TEACHINGS.
One more point to tie everything together is the Greek word translated as “wrought” in God also means to ENGAGE with God as a gear MESHES with what DRIVES the gear.
With that being said, let us look at some different teachings so that you can decide or choose which teaching agrees with the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
In other words, which of the following teachings is engaged with the TRUTH so that it MESHES with God?
#1. The Triniatarian interpretation of John 3:16.
Trinitarian Christians “interpret” John 3:16,17 as God sending down God the Son who had NO BEGINNING down from heaven to become flesh.
Thus, they believe that the ONLY BEGOTTEN God the Son died on the cross for the sins of the world.
And some argue that if you do not believe that God HIMSELF died on the cross for your sins, then you will remain dead in your sins.
#1. WHY the Triniatarian interpretation of John 3:16 is in ERROR!
The word “begotten” means that the Son of God had a BEGINNING, a time when the Son of God came into existence to become the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son of God.
Therefore, their understanding that God GAVE His ETERNAL Son from heaven to be incarnated as flesh actually CONTRADICTS John 3:16.
For you see, in order for their view to make any sense whatsoever, the Son would NEED to have been BEGOTTEN in the eternity past.
And the doctrine of the Trinity teaches that the Son of God did NOT have ANY BEGINNING at ANY TIME, but rather, the Son of God has ALWAYS existed as the second person of the ONE God.
So then, let us dig a little deeper in the meanings of the Greek words to see if one can still make the doctrine of the Trinity AGREE with John 3:16.
The Greek word translated as “GAVE” also means “BROUGHT FORTH”.
And the CONTEXT in John 3:1-15 teaches us about being BORN of God and the Son of MAN being lifted up on the cross to die for the sins of the world.
So to me, ONE of the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of the phrase “God GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son” should be understood as God brought forth His HUMAN Son into EXISTENCE in the womb of the Virgin Mary.
Then at the Son of MAN’S baptism, Jesus was BORN-AGAIN to receive the earnest of God’s Holy Spirit to DWELL in him.
And after the cross and resurrection, the ANOINTED HUMAN Son of God became FIRSTBORN of EVERY creature to be made in the PERFECT IMAGE of the invisible God to ENTER into GLORY.
So then, to summarize, the Son that God SENT into the world was His HUMAN Son to preach the gospel.
For you see, the Son of MAN was miraculously conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mary just like it was PROPHESIED to happen.
And whosoever believes on the NAME of the REGENERATED human Son of God from the DEAD, never to die again, shall NOT perish, but ALSO be given eternal life.
And whosoever who does NOT BELIEVE that God resurrected His Son of MAN from the dead, HIGHLY EXALTED him, giving him a NEW NAME, and GAVE him the divine nature of immortality will PERISH in the lake of fire on the final Day of Judgment.
#2. The Oneness Pentecostal interpretation of John 3:16.
The Oneness Pentecostal Christians believe that Almighty God the Father HIMSELF died on the cross for the sins of the world.
They argue that the Father and the Son are one and the self-same BEING.
In other words, to THEM, Jesus is the Father and the Father is Jesus, and there is only ONE who sits on the throne whose name is Jesus.
And they also dogmatically demand that if you do not believe that Almighty God Himself died on the cross, then you will remain dead in your sins.
#2. WHY the Oneness Pentecostal interpretation of John 3:16 is in ERROR!
The word of God says that He SENT His Son. It does not say that God Himself came down from heaven and manifested HIMSELF to BECOME flesh.
They base their evil doctrine on 1 Timothy 3:16. And they argue that it says God manifested HIMSELF in the flesh.
But that is NOT what that verse says. They ADD the word “Himself” in their minds as to how they INTERPRET the Scriptures.
In other words, they READ INTO the Scriptures their own perceived belief.
Simply understand the following facts to see the TRUTH.
God Himself does not need to be JUSTIFIED.
Rather, it was the human Son of God who was justified to be manifested to become a God under and subject to his God, whom God SET on His throne at His right hand side UNTIL God puts all of the ENEMIES under his feet.
Why would God Himself need to be SEEN of angels?
Why would Almighty God Himself need to be RECEIVED up into GLORY?
You see, their interpretation of 1 Timothy 3:16 does NOT MESH with the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
So, to my Oneness Pentecostal brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ, the BODY that God PREPARED was for His HUMAN Son to RECEIVE for obeying all of the will of his God and Father.
The body in Hebrews 10:5 was the GLORIFIED immortal body that He prepared for His HUMAN Son.
#3. The “Reformed” Trinitarian interpretation of John 3:16.
The “Reformed” Trinitarian Christians are former or ex-Trinitarian Christians who REDEFINE the Godhead Trinity doctrine.
For you see, they have come to PART of the light to now know and understand PART of the TRUTH.
And that PART of the truth is that the Son of God had a BEGINNING and that the Father is GREATER than His Son.
So then, they WRONGLY “interpret” the Son of God as being begotten in the eternity past as God the Son who was under and subject to God the Father.
And some of them also teach that the Holy Spirit is under and subject to both the Father and God the Son.
Thus, to them, God SENT God the Son, His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son in the ETERNITY past down from heaven to BECOME flesh.
But that theory CONTRADICTS verses like Luke 24:26, which clearly teaches us that the Son of MAN needed to suffer and die on the cross to ENTER INTO GLORY.
The human Son of God was RECEIVED UP into GLORY to be SEATED on God’s throne
#1. WHY the “Reformed” Triniatarian interpretation of John 3:16 is in ERROR!
As you can see by what they believe, they still cling to the THREE separate persons in the ONE God theory.
I say “theory” because the Bible ITSELF never describes God as being three separate persons in one God.
But rather, the Scriptures clearly define the FATHER as being the ONLY TRUE God in John 17:1-3, plus many other verses of Scripture.
The word “BEGOTTEN” is Strong’s number G1080 and it means REGENERATED.
Simply go to BlueLetter.org and type in G1080 in the search box to find all of the verses of Scriptures that have the Greek word “gennaō” in them.
And you will see that EVERY verse teaches about being REGENERATED by the word of God to become a NEW CREATION of God.
So why would God BEGET or REGENERATE God the Son in the ETERNITY PAST?
NO! All of the Scriptures teach us that the Son of MAN was BEGOTTEN on the DAY that God RESURRECTED or BROUGHT FORTH the Son of MAN from the DEAD and RECEIVED him up into heaven to be GLORIFIED with a new IMMORTAL body.
And that very same day of his resurrection and ascending to his God, that very day in the evening, the now GLORIFIED Son of MAN descended back down from heaven to show himself ALIVE for forty days before ascending back into heaven where he was BEFORE just forty days earlier.
Thus, the Son was begotten TWICE by the word of God.
The first time was the FULFILLMENT of the prophecies of God’s FUTURE creation of people in Psalm 102:18, and in Jeremiah 31:22 that new creation has its beginning with a woman compassing a man, and in Isaiah 9:6,7, the child born of a woman, and in Isaiah 7:14, the woman being a VIRGIN.

But for now, let us continue with this study to see which teaching TRULY MESHES with the WHOLE TRUTH of God’s word.
For you see, when gears do NOT fit together CORRECTLY they will either not work at all or they will end up BREAKING and falling APART sooner or later.
#4. The Jehovah’s Witness interpretation of John 3:16.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses also teach that the Son of God was begotten in the eternity past.
And then the Son in the “office” as the created Spirit being named the Word helped God create all things.
They argue that God created the Son as His FIRST creation and then God created everything else or all other things by MEANS of the Son.
However, they do NOT believe that Jesus is God Himself, but yet they teach that the Son who helped God CREATE all things was sent down from heaven and entered into the womb of the Virgin and BECAME the fully HUMAN Son of God.
#4. WHY the Jehovah’s Witness interpretation of John 3:16 is in ERROR!
The CONTEXT in Colossians 1:15-17 is speaking of the ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus to be made as NEW CREATURES created in Jesus ANOINTED.
And thus, Jesus is the FIRSTBORN of every NEW CREATURE made in the IMAGE of the unseen God is speaking of God’s NEW CREATION or righteous people and NOT the Son being the first created being of God in the eternity past.
Please know and understand that the English word “THINGS” is NOT in the original Greek text.
In other words, there is no Greek word in the original Greek text that can be translated as the English word “things” in Colossians 1:16,17.
And the Greek word “dia” translated as “by” him were created all “things”, also means “in” him were the all created.
In other words, the ALL who believe were created by God INTO the BODY of Jesus Christ, the church.
And Jesus is the BEGINNING of God’s CREATION by becoming the FIRSTBORN from the DEAD, the FIRSTBORN among many BRETHREN, the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE made in the EXPRESS IMAGE of the unseen God who ALONE in the Father.
#5. The Biblical Unitarian interpretation of John 3:16.
The Biblical Unitarian Christians believe that the Son of God did NOT pre-exist in the eternity past.
We believe that the Son of God is the FULFILLMENT of the word of God which God SPOKE out from His MOUTH and then PERFORMED His own spoken word of PROPHECY.
And thus, we believe that the word made FLESH literally means the written and spoken word of God became the HUMAN Son of God called the Son of MAN.
We believe that the Son of MAN was lifted up on the cross to die for the sins of the whole world.
And we believe that the Son of MAN BECAME the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son of God after the cross and resurrection.
For you see, the CONTEXT of Colossians 1:15 is about the NEW creation of God and Jesus being the firstborn from the DEAD to being the BEGINNING of the BODY, the church of the FIRSTBORN, the firstborn among many BRETHREN.
Therefore, we interpret John 3:16 as John’s written RECORD of a past event that happened WHEN God raised up or BROUGHT FORTH His HUMAN Son back from the GRAVE and gave the Son of MAN the divine nature of eternal life.
Thus, we believe that John 3:16 should be translated and understood as God so loved the world that He RECEIVED His only BEGOTTEN Son INTO GLORY to rule as God over the earth during the world to come for 1000 years.
#5. WHY the Biblical Unitarian interpretation of John 3:16 is the ONLY true SOUND Biblical interpretation that AGREES will ALL of the Scriptures!
The short answer for WHY the Biblical Unitarian interpretation of the phrase “God GAVE His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son” to be an incorrect TRANSLATION is the ONLY SOUND Biblical interpretation is as follows.
First of all, if the meaning RECEIVED of the Greek word “didomi” is used instead of the meaning gave, then it does NOT CONTRADICT any other verse of Scripture in the entire Bible.
In other words when ALL of the Scriptures are correctly TRANSLATED and correctly INTERPRETED, then they all FIT or MESH together perfectly and the gates of hell will NOT PREVAIL against the TRUTH.
Now that you have seen all of the main interpretations of John 3:16, let us look at how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Greek word “didōmi” in verse 16.

A prolonged form of a primary verb (which is used as an alternate in most of the tenses); to give (used in a very wide application, properly or by implication, literally or figuratively; greatly modified by the connection): - adventure, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver (up), give, grant, hinder, make, minister, number, offer, have power, put, receive, set, shew, smite (+ with the hand), strike (+ with the palm of the hand), suffer, take, utter, yield.
God MADE His only begotten Son by forming him in the womb of the Virgin Mary through PERFORMING His own word of PROPHECY.
God DELIVER up the soul of His human Son from Hell to BRING FORTH His created human Son from the dead.
And then God RECEIVED His human Son up into heaven to be GLORIFIED and made a partaker of the Divine NATURE of immortality.
And when we truly understand that it was the Son of MAN that was BEGOTTEN by God at the RESURRECTION, then you can see why the gospels record the events of Jesus in the PAST tense.
For example, Matthew 1:18 says, “The BIRTH of Jesus Christ was on this wise” or the BIRTH of Jesus ANOINTED happened in this way.
The Son of God was not given that NAME Jesus until after he was born.
And that Son of God was not ANOINTED until his baptism in the River Jordan by John the Baptist.
So then, why did Matthew say the birth of “Jesus Christ” happened in this way when a SON was BORN and NOT an ANOINTED Son was born?
It is because that is the way we talk about events that have already happened.
The Son who was born BECAME known as Jesus Christ. There was no “Jesus ANOINTED” in the eternity past.
And in the same way, there is NO ONLY BEGOTTEN Son in the eternity past.
But rather, the HUMAN Son of MAN, Jesus, was BEGOTTEN or REGENERATED to BECOME the GLORIFIED eternal Son of God at the RESURRECTION.
And the disciples of Jesus referred to the RESURRECTION of the human Son of God as being the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son.
Please read Acts 13:29-41.
“And when they had FULFILLED all that was written of him, (Behold, I COME in the volume of Your BOOK, according to PROPHECY in Psalm 40:5-7 and the FULFILLMENT in Hebrews 10:7) they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulcher.
Acts 13:30. But God raised him from the dead: (The CHILD who was BORN FIRST, the HUMAN Son who was GIVEN to die on the cross, whose prophesied future NAME shall be called the mighty God WHEN the government is laid upon his shoulders during the world to come)
Acts 13:31. And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. (Speaking of the forty days AFTER the cross and resurrection, the very DAY that the Son of MAN, Jesus, was GLORIFIED and given his new immortal BODY that God PREPARED for him, according to Hebrews 10:5)
Acts 13:32. And we (The eyewitnesses of Jesus) declare unto you glad tidings, (Or the good news or the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ) how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
Act 13:33. God has FULFILLED the same unto us their children, in THAT He has RAISED UP Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, You are My Son, THIS DAY have I BEGOTTEN you. (Or on this day that I resurrected you, I have REGENERATED you)
Acts 13:34. And as concerning that He raised him up from the DEAD, NOW no more to return to corruption, (In other words, God gave His human Son a new glorified IMMORTAL body of flesh and bones that God PREPARED for his Messiah) He said on this wise, I will GIVE you the sure mercies of David.
Acts 13:35. Wherefore, he (David the prophet) said also in another psalm, You shall not suffer Your Holy One to see corruption. (And Hosea 11:9 makes it BLATANTLY clear that God is NOT the MAN, the Holy One in the midst of you)
Acts 13:36. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
Acts 13:37. But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. (And, according to John 3:14, the CONTEXT of John 3:16, it was the Son of MAN who was lifted up on the cross to die for the sins of the world)
Acts 13:38. Be it KNOWN unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this MAN (Whom God REGENERATED, the ONLY REGENERATED Son of God) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
Acts 13:39. And by him (Or in him or because of him, the NOW GLORIFIED Son of God) all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Acts 13:40. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
Acts 13:41. Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: (And some Christians DESPISE the teaching of Biblical Unitarian Christians that a MAN suffered and died of the cross for the sins of the world.
Some WONDER, how can a MAN die for the sins of other men?) for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a MAN declares it unto you.”
Nowhere in the entire Bible is Jesus referred to as God the Son.
Nowhere in the entire Bible is Jesus described as a so-called God/man having TWO natures at the SAME time DURING the days of his FLESH, one divine and one human.
But rather, the Apostle saw or understood Jesus to be the HUMAN Son of God made a little LOWER than the angels during the days of his FLESH.
And then his God and Father CROWNED his human Son with GLORY and honor to RECEIVE power to be SET on the throne of Yahweh, UNTIL God puts all His ENEMIES under the feet of His Lord and King.
Always remember that God Himself MADE the Son of MAN both Lord and Christ AFTER the cross and resurrection, according to Acts 2:36.
So then, God CREATED ALL of mankind to RECEIVE GLORY and power, but ALL men have fallen SHORT of that glory.
