Chair Resignation Letter

Following the recent emergency meeting of the committee, it was decided by the majority present to allow (as a privelige, not a right), to allow members to play music whilst shooting. Rules of conduct were decided upon and these rules will no doubt follow on from Paul Carney.

However, this decision allowing music to be played and thereby directly interfering with some members ability to focus and concentrate is (in my view) a disregard of one of AGB’s fundamental rules of shooting, ie etiquette. Expecting members to ask people to silence their music can be confrontational. This is unfair as some members would sooner tolerate the distraction than create this confrontation.

This decision by the committee has confirmed my resignation as Chair to Stalybridge Archery Club. In all conscience, I cannot be part of a committee that actively disregards a basic rule of AGB by allowing a non-essential activity to distract and potentially alienate a section of the membership.

It’s a shame this has occurred… I feel (as a committee) we’ve made progress this year. The classifications board, the outdoor heaters being installed, the workshop coming together and the club finally putting an end to hemorrhaging it's hard earned money

I’ll remain positive for the future and wish the committee (and the new Chair) all my best.
