Club shirt competition

Members may remember there was another shirt selected by some members in the competition earlier this year. After several long drawn out emails, two suppliers have been found that are prepared to produce the second shirt.

One supplier cannot do the original design but has offered some very close versions and at a fantastic price.  The minimum order is 15 units at £309 which is £20.60 a shirt.

The bit they can't do is the red detail under the sleeve but they have offered a version with red piping instead of black.

The other supplier can offer the original design at £30 a shirt with a minimum order of 11 units.

Members who are still interested, there were 18, in having one of these shirts are requested to contact Mike Hindle so that he can determine if there is enough demand to proceed with an order.

The shirt design is shown below as a reminder.

Pete’s Portsmouth Pledge

The following message has been forwarded to the club by the Secretary of Cheshire Archery Association who has also forwarded on to all the other clubs within the County at the request of Peter Gregory, Cheshire Chair.

"As you may be aware I had a cancer scare earlier this year which makes you want to re-evaluate things.

Goldcrest archers have always supported a different charity each year. This year while I was walking through my local market, I was stopped by a person who volunteers at the pink ribbon; this is a charity for breast cancer, so I signed up for the next 12 months, making donations each month which is a nice thing to do.

Being on their mailing list I'm now constantly getting updates and fund-raising activities so I thought if I can help a little bit more it may help people in the future.

So, on sat 14th January 2023 I'm holding a fundraising event called Pete's Portsmouth pledge.

I'm attempting to shoot 10 Portsmouth rounds one after the other starting at 9am and I'm inviting anyone to join me by just shooting one alongside me but I'm asking for a £10 donation towards the pink ribbon charity.

The range has enough room for 12 archers shooting at one time as I don't want to shoot in details as this will slow things down a little, I'm hoping to raise around £500, that equates to 50 archers helping me achieve this.

I'd like to think I had more than 50 friends across Cheshire and the whole of northern counties so if anyone is free on the 14th please come along and join me in a good course to help people with breast cancer 🎀

I will be shooting at goldcrest archers indoor range based in Hyde info on how to find us is on our website .

Also, if you can't make the shoot but would like to donate, please send your amount along with your name and ref pink ribbon every penny will be sent to them .

Committee Position Vacancies

The Treasurer (Phil Murphy) has decided to step down at the next AGM, in February 2023, therefore a replacement will be required for this vital position.

The club also need's a new Chair to take over from the February AGM. Terry Gregory is currently acting as the Chair on a temporary basis until the AGM.

A new Secretary is also required following Alison McGowan stepping down and not renewing her membership this year.

The club is looking for fresh faces to volunteer to take on the  responsibilities that such positions involve, to ensure the continued smooth running of the club. Members are asked to please consider whether they would able to contribute to the club in such a capacity.

For details of the general tasks involved please refer to the 'Duties of Committee Positions' page of the website.

Please contact Kay Simpson, or send an email to the Secretaries email address if you are interested or require further information.

Five Counties Team Match

This is an annual event where teams of Recurve, Compound and Longbow archers from the five Counties that make up the NCAS (Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland & Yorkshire) shoot.

At this years event the Gents Longbow team was comprised solely of archers from Stalybridge, these being Brian Rosenberg and Steve Watts.

Both members had been selected for the shoot because of the scores they had achieved at the Cheshire Weekend tournament in August, Brian getting 1st place and Steve 2nd place in Cheshire for both the WA1440 on the Saturday and the York on the Sunday.

At the Five Counties match Steve just missed out on achieving the required score for the third leg of his Master Bowman classification, while Brian managed to shoot a three gold end at 80 yards (which is awardable with a badge for Longbows) and achieved his first Master Bowman score in over five years.

Congratulations to both of them for doing so well, and representing the club at County level.

How to become a Judge AGB Webinar 5th April

The sport requires Judges to ensure that competitions can be run both safely and fairly. Like all other sports, a team of officials is required to make sure the result at the end of the day is correct and to help the competitors have a good day out! Judging is another way of participating and can be fitted around other commitments, such as shooting and coaching.

Any member of ArcheryGB aged 16 or over can train to become a Judge, there is also a special scheme for "Youth" Judges (those aged 16-30).

If any members are interested in learning more then book a place via your AGB members portal.

Until then, for anyone interested, more information can be found in the AGB Guide to Becoming a Judge, plus additional information can be found in AGB's Useful Resources for Judges.

Information can also be obtained from the County's SPoC or the Regional Judge Liaison Officer (JLO). Please refer to the CAA and NCAS websites for relevant contact information.

Remember, though the legal restrictions have been lifted regarding isolation and mitigation, there are members of the club who can be classified as being vulnerable, so please be mindful of these situations when attending the club.
