Alan Smith
1958 - 1960
Alan Smith a director of Sterling Mouldings, Stalybridge, and one of the founder members of the club, was involved in a car accident and killed.The family of Alan presented the club with a trophy in his memory. The trophy was presented to the gents recurve champion at the club's outdoor target championships.
Gerald Leigh
1958 - 1960
Just a few weeks after the death of Alam Smith, Gerald Leigh, the Treasurer of the club and one of the founding members, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Gerald's parents had a Green Grocers shop in Portland Place. He worked for Cyril Wood, the Organ Builder from Ashton-Under-Lyne who were, at the time, rebuilding the Hill Organ at St; Paul's Church. Gerald left the Church on his bike one lunchtime and was involved in an accident at the Guide Post junction and sadly was killed.Geralds family also presented the club with a trophy in his memory, this was used as the Handicap Champions Trophy at the Club Championships.
William Quinn
1968 - 1972
William (Bill) Quinn was the founding father of the club, having approached the local council to obtain a lease to the Paddock and put an advertisement in the local paper to attract like minded people as members.William also served as the club's Secretary for many years as well as under taking jobs within the club such as painting signs such as distance markers and target faces, making wooden quivers and fletching arrows.William unfortunately, retired as a club member in 1972 due to ill health and sadly died on the 21st November 1990 at the age of 70.
Marguerite Bonser
1991 - 2009
Marguerite (Mog) was a much loved, respected and valued member of the club. During her membership she had held the posts of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Junior Records officer and general committee member.Marguerite had been a driving force in setting up the Junior club and in conjunction with Margaret Shorrock was instrumental in starting to run sessions exclusively for the juniors at the club.Marguerite started off shooting Recurve, but later converted to the Longbow, a discipline in which she became quite proficient achieving the classification of First Class.She with be greatly missed by her friends and shooting companions.
Frank Smith
1968 - 2010
Frank was the Clubs longest standing continuous member, and was awarded an Honorary membership for this achievement in 2008 to celebrate the clubs Golden Jubilee.Frank started off shooting Recurve, and achieved the grade of 1st Class Archer, he later changed style to shoot Compound.Frank will be remembered for his love of tinkering, which lead him to make many of his own accessories including sights, rests, stabilisers and pressure buttons, he also helped many members over the years that had problems with their equipment.Frank was also one of the clubs original Trusteeā€™s and held the post for 10 years before stepping down.
Clive Stewart-Milner
1982 - 2011
Clive was a very respected and valued member of the club. He served briefly on the committee as a senior representative, but he much preferred to be involved in the maintenance and improvement of the club.He was one of the driving forces behind the construction and erection of the indoor extension to the club house and its later modification to improve the kitchen area and to fit the steel cladding to the roof.Clive shot Recurve for most of his membership, attaining a Bowman consistently year after year, but did put a few Master Bowman scores in at the club. Clive started shooting Longbow during the last several years of his membership and again put in consistently good scores.
