Rudolf Field Shoot

The club's annual field shoot will be taking place on Thursday 27th December, starting at 10:00 am. This is a great opportunity, for both new and existing members, to experience a field shoot in a relaxed & friendly atmosphere. Home made Soup will be served at lunchtime, which is after one circuit of the course. If any members have left over mince pies/cake etc; please bring them along. A poster has been placed on the noticeboard in the club house giving further information.

Field shoots take an awful lot of setting up, which is done the day before the shoot, 26th December (Boxing Day). If any members can spare an hour or two to help out please be at the club from 11:00 am on Wednesday 26th December.

Spooky Shoot

Next Saturday, 27th October, the club will be holding it's Annual Spooky Shoot, to which all members are welcome.

Sighters will be at 10:00 am.

Fancy dress of a Spooky nature is optional. A BBQ lunch, with cakes for desert, will be provided for everyone after the shoot, there will also be a Veggie option available.

For catering purposes will members please add their name on the whiteboard if you are attending.

Caldy Indoor Tournament

For over sixteen years around 20 or so Stalybridge senior & junior members have been competing in the Indoor tournament hosted by CALDY BOWMEN at their venue on the Wirrel.

This is a perfect tournament for New archers to experience. If you can hit a Portsmouth Target Face at 20 yards then you are good to go! CALDY provide the scorers for every Target, all you have to do is relax, shoot and enjoy!

This annual Indoor event will be held on Sunday 25th November. It is a popular event and they have 3 Bookable Sessions. As usual, Margaret Shorrock will contact the Organizer and arrange to reserve around 20 Places for the middle session that begins at 12.00 noon.

A block entry will be submitted the first week in November. Should any members wish to compete in that session, please put your name and particulars on the entry form which will be on the notice board in the Club House. Full details of the event will also displayed. The entry fee for the tournament is £9.00 per archer.

Please Note:

Once the entry form has been submitted fees can NOT bereturned if you change your mind about competing. If you have not, as yet, received your Membership number from Archery GB the club will provide you with a Club temporary number, that will suffice.

Tradional Longbow Tournament

The club's final shoot of the outdoor season is the Traditional Longbow Shoot. This will be held at the club on Sunday 28th October. The main competition is for members shooting Longbows, however, other members are encouraged to come along and take part. If you don't own a Longbow then see if you can beg or borrow a Longbow or Flatbow, failing that you can always use one of the club's fibreglass bows. Distances shoot will be suited to your ability.

No Compound, Recurve or Barebows are permitted at this shoot.

To help members get the most enjoyment out of this shoot the club is organising a practice day, for both Juniors and Seniors, on Saturday 20th October. The club has a number of Longbows available, together with a selection of arrows made by David Hankinson, at Margaret's request. The Juniors practice session will be from 11.00 am, and Seniors from 2.00pm. Tuition will be available from experienced Longbow archers.

Outdoor Target Championships

These will be taking place on Sunday 9th September, at the club. Sighters will be at 10:00 am prompt.

Members are requested to arrive early to help set out the targets as well as setting up their own equipment. The Archery GB dress code will be applied at this shoot, which means you are not allowed to wear blue denim jeans, any item of clothing which has a camouflage pattern. Also, shirts need to be long enough so that while drawing the bow your mid-riff is not visibleand all shoes must enclose the front and sides of the foot.

Help Required

This Friday, 27th July, we will be holding the annual Waterloo Corporate Event at the club, and therefore members will not be able to shoot between the hours of 7.30am - 5.30pm.

Volunteers are still needed to help out with the setting up of the field in the morning, 7.30am onwards, assisting with the actual Have-A-Go, clearing everything away at the end of the day and help with the catering in the kitchen.

Members helping will have their breakfast and lunch included.

Corporate Have-a-go

With all the planning for the Anniversary Weekend, the club has taken its eye off the ball concerning the arrangements for the annual Waterloo Corporate event on Friday 27^th July. This has becomes one of the most important (not to say lucrative) events in the clubs calendar, and is now in its 5^th year.

The club would like members to volunteer to help at this event, which will include:

• • Setting up the field, equipment and the clubhouse which will commence from about 8.00 am

  • Experienced Members are required to instruct our guests from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm

  • Catering arrangements which will be ongoing throughout the day.

  • Shut down will be from about 4.30 pm.

There will be sausage and bacon barm’s for everyone before shooting commences, and as usual lunch will be available to all volunteers.

If you are able to help in any capacity, please add your names to the list on the Notice board ASAP.

60^th Celebration Shooting

Saturday 14^th July

The juniors will be celebrating the 60^th Anniversary by shooting Portsmouth rounds, 5 dozen arrows shot at 20 yards on a 60cm face, using handicaps, and organised by Margaret Shorrock. The club will be providing a BBQ lunch, with cakes, after the shoot for the juniors and their family. If any parents/guardians can help out on the day it would be much appreciated, also please inform Margaret of any dietary requirements as soon as possible.

Saturday 21^st July

Andy Wardle and Andy Massey will be organizing an Anniversary Double American round (one round in the morning, sighters at 10:00 am, and one in the afternoon, sighters at 1:30 pm ish. An American round consists of 2.5 dozen arrows shot at 60 yards, 50 yards and 40 yards, all on a 122cm face. All members, Senior and Junior, are welcome to take part. You may shoot either the morning or the afternoon session, or both, if you so wish, as there will be an overhaul winner for each bow type for both the Double round as well as an overhaul winner for each bow type for a single round.

There will be NO Junior Club held on this Saturday, but if juniors wish to shoot the distances above, they are most welcome to join in.

In the evening, from 5:00 pm, there will be a social celebration at the club, hopefully including, sitting outside enjoying the beautiful Stalybridge weather, with the possibility of music and maybe dancing later too.

Sunday 22^nd July

Steve Mayer, Tournaments Officer, will organise the morning shoot with various Handicap Long Metric rounds, this is to give everyone an equal opportunity. The maximum distance to be shot will be 50m which equates to a Long Metric II. The minimum distance will depend on numbers attending on the day. All members, both senior & junior are welcome.

BBQ Bacon & Sausage butties, plus veggie option, will be provided by the club for lunch.

In the afternoon, from 1:30 pm, Paul Carney will be organising a fun afternoon shoot consisting of balloons & 3D targets. All seniors & juniors members are welcome to attend, even if you couldn’t make the morning shoot.

60^th Anniversary Celebrations

Below is a draft outline for the events planned to celebrate the clubs anniversary

Saturday 14^th July

The Juniors will be celebrating the 60^th Anniversary by holding a shoot organised by Margaret, there will also be a BBQ afterwards.

Saturday 21^st July

Andy Wardle and Andy Massey will organise a 12 dozen round. The junior club will be run as normal, but numbers are expected to be low as this is the start of the school holidays. In the evening, from 5:00 pm, the club will host a social celebration event at the club, hopefully sitting outside enjoying the beautiful English weather. Tables will be set up for members and guests to bring their own cutlery and drinks, while the club will provide and organise a BBQ. The Club will provide meat and veggie options. This evening will be open to all members, including parents of juniors.

Sunday 22^nd July

Steve Mayer (Tournaments Officer) will be organising a shoot in the morning, which will consist of various Metric rounds. The maximum distance will be a Long Metric 3, which are 60m and 50m respectively. The minimum distance shot will depend on the number of members shooting on the day. BBQ Bacon & Sausage butties will be provided for lunch. In the afternoon, Paul Carney will organise a fun afternoon shoot with balloons & 3D targets. At the end of the day Trophies will be awarded, once everything has been cleared away.

Apart from the above

Anniversary Polo Shirts have now been ordered.

75 commemorative badges have been ordered, the club has paid for these.

Trophies have been sorted, Dave Hankinson is making these in conjunction with Kay and Steve.

A commemorative plaque has been made, which will have the names of all the winners added to and, and then it will be hung up in the club house.

Andy Massey, Kevin Deakins and John Simpson will be on hand to be BBQ chefs.

As with all these events a lot of organisation has, and still is, taking place to ensure these events run as smoothly as possible.

Full details will be published when available, so that members can start planning and look forward to the celebrations.

Mid-Summer Shoot

This shoot will be held on Wednesday 20^th June with sighters at 7:00 pm prompt.

The round to be shot will be a National, which consists of 4 dozen arrows 60 yards and 2 dozen arrows at 50 yards, all on a 122cm face.

Shorter National rounds are available for juniors to shoot.

All members are welcome to attend.

Annual Open & Have-A-Go Day

The Annual Have-a-go & open day will take place on Sunday 24^th June.

This is the clubs biggest and most successful fund raising event of the year, so members are requested to volunteer their time to help make the event a success.

This is a long and usually busy day with volunteers required from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Help is required outside with tutoring, setting up equipment, clearing up, pinning balloons on targets, taking the money, selling raffle tickets, tea/coffee/cakes and washing up.

As you can see there are plenty of different jobs to suit all ages and abilities.

Seniors, Junior and their parents are all welcome to help.

Paul Carney will be organising the event outside and Margaret Shorrock will be organising inside activities.

Please add your name to the noticeboard in the club house if you can help. You do not need to volunteer for the whole day, just whatever time you can spare.

There are flyers and posters in the club house which you can take to help advertise this event, also required is the large boards putting up in the trees this coming weekend, so if anyone can help with this, please be at the club on Saturday morning for about 9.30 am.

Club Clout Practice and Championships

This year the two events are being combined into one and will take place at Marple Hall School, Hill Top Drive, Marple. SK6 6LB, this coming Sunday, 20^th May.

Apologies to everyone for the short notice, but this date has only just been confirmed by the school.

The School has ample car parking and excellent toilets but no catering facilities will be available on the day, therefore members attending will have to bring along their own refreshments.

Members are requested to arrive from 10:00 am onwards, both to set up their own equipment and help with the setting out of the field.

The distances to be shot will be 'IMPERIAL' i.e. yards.

Help and instruction on how to shoot a clout will be available on the day for anyone who has not shot one previously.

Sighters will commence at 11:00 am.

There will be an entry fee charged, of £5 for seniors, but juniors will be allowed to shoot free of charge.

All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

All members who have trophies for this event are requested to return these. Either leave them in the club house, no later than Friday, or bring them with you on Sunday. Whichever method you decide, please inform Steve Mayer, Tournaments officer, to avoid any confusion on the day.

Clout Championships

The Tournaments Officer has also indicated that the Annual Clout Championships may be held at Marple Hall School on Sunday 20^th May.

The club is currently awaiting confirmation as to whether the ground is available on that date. Further information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Olympic Challenge Tournament

This Sunday, 13^th May, is the clubs annual Olympic challenge & H2H tournament, incorporating the Compound challenge. All bow types are welcome, with non-compound bows types having their own sub-competition.

The round to be shot will be the WA 70, consisting of 6 dozen arrows at 70m on a 122cm face. Shorter distances are available for juniors and seniors who are not able to reach 70m.

Sighters will be at 10:00 am prompt, so please arrive in plenty of time to get your equipment ready and help with setting up the targets.

Archery GB dress code applies to this shoot, so no blue jeans or camouflage material is allowed to be worn. For full details click on this link AGB Rule 307

AED Training

Training on how to use the automated external defibrillator (AED), will take place at the club on Thursday 10^th May starting at 7:00 pm. All members are strongly encouraged to attend, as you never know when such lifesaving skills may be needed.

Have-a-go Help

More members are still needed to volunteer for the corporate Have A Go on Friday 27^th April. Help is needed outside

    • Helping the guests on the shooting line

    • Sorting out arrows

    • Other assorted small jobs which need doing to make the day go smoothly.

Any time you can give would be most appreciated.

Remember it’s a team effort as well as being a lot of fun too.

60^th Anniversary Shoot

The Clubs Anniversary shoot/celebrations will be held at the club on Sunday 22^nd July.

This will be a whole day event, for which full details will be sent out soon.

Summer Leagues

Andy Wardle, the Club Captain, is running the monthly summer leagues again this year, but instead of a Western round, as shot in previous years, this year’s rounds will be Nationals.

For those new members amongst us a National Round consists of:

4 dozen arrows at 60 yards + 2 dozen arrows at 50 yards, shot on a 122cm face.

You can shoot as many rounds in a month as you wish, and put in a score sheet, but when you submit the 2 shoots per month for the actual summer league, they must state 'SUMMER LEAGUE' clearly on the sheet.

Any problems or questions please speak to Andy Wardle or a member of the Committee.

Corporate have-a-go

On Friday 27^th April the club is holding a corporate event from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, therefore no casual shooting by members will be allowed during this time period.

Volunteers are needed to help outside with the instruction and setup and inside with the catering. Members are requested to add their name to the whiteboard if you are available to help on the day.

This is a big fundraising event for the club, so any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Colour Shoot

The Colour Shoot has been cancelled. This decision has been taken by the Committee principally because of the treacherous state of the field and their wish not to damage the surface any more than necessary.

Colour Shoot

This will be held at the club on Sunday 18^th March. Sighters will be at 10am and the rounds to be shot are Westerns.

All members, both Senior & Junior are welcome to come along and take part. This is a fun shoot and the first to be held outdoors this year.

Home-made soup and cakes will be available, free of charge, at lunch time for those taking part.

The ground, as usual at this time of the year, is very wet and uneven so members need to take care when setting up & moving the targets during the day, as well as when retrieving arrows that may have missed the boss.

Members are advised to wear footwear that is appropriate for these conditions.

Members will be required to help setting up the targets prior to the start of the shoot, they are therefore requested to arrive at about 9am to help out.

Indoor Championships

The Senior/Junior Indoor Championships will be taking place this Sunday 25^th February at Longdendale High School, Spring Street, Hollingworth, Hyde. SK14 8LW.

The round to be shot is a Portsmouth, which consists of shooting five dozen arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm face

All members are welcome.

Would members please arrive in plenty of time, 9:00am onwards, to set up their equipment and get ready for starting at 10.30am.

Please bear in mind that all the equipment necessary to hold this shoot will be transported from the club that morning and set up in the sports hall. Andy Wardle is coordinating this. Please contact Andy if you are able to help in any way. Help will also be needed to take down all the equipment afterwards and return it all to the club.

If you have any trophies from previous years please return on the day and hand them to Steve Mayer the tournaments officer.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held on Sunday 18^th February in the club house starting at 1.30pm. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend this meeting.

Every senior member is entitled to vote on any resolution that has been proposed and circulated prior to the meeting, as well as hear the reports of the Club Officers, vote for the Management Committee Members for the coming year, and give your views or comments on how the Club is run and what you think our future priories should be.

The round to be shot at the club champs is also one of the items that will be decided by popular vote.
