Voted for the 'Respect' for 'Marriage' Act (H.R.8404)
The 'Respect' for 'Marriage' Act (H.R.8404) repeals the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) (H.R.3396) which barred the Federal government from recognizing homosexual 'marriages' who were recognized as 'marriaged' under state law. Homosexuals could not receive recieve benefits from the government because of this. The 'Respect' for 'Marriage' Act also requires all states to recognize homosexuals as married couples. Republicans in both the House and the Senate voted for the act.
