Voted for the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (H.R. 3746)
The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (H.R. 3746) which was agreed upon by Rep. Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden would cut Federal spending by $2.13 trillion. It would still raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion dollars. An earlier bill created by the House Freedom Caucus would have cut spending by much more than this and balanced the budget, but Kevin McCarthy chose not to push this bill, forcing many Republicans to vote for the Fiscal Responsibility Act (many Republicans voted for the bill because they claimed it was a start). It also does not cut Biden's new IRS funding by very much. The bill passed the House of Representatives with 314 Representatives (149 Republicans and 165 Democrats) voting for the bill and 117 Representatives (71 Republicans and 46 Democrats) voting against the bill. 4 Representatives chose not to vote (2 Republicans and 2 Democrats). The bill did not contain Republicans wins that the earlier bill had contained. In fact the bill passed the House with more Democrat support than Republican support; seemingly telling us this was a win for Democrats and the Uniparty. Most members of the House Freedom Caucus and most Progressives voted against the bill.
The Senate voted 63-36 (1 Senator was absent) for the Fiscal Responsibility Act. This garnered enough votes to pass the bill and send it to the President Biden's desk to be signed.
