"This is an industrial scene today but was once a beautiful bottomland. In 1903 the Olmstead Brothers proposed a "Northwestern River Parkway" along Saint Helens Road, which "in the low land at the base of the steep hills ... is nearly level, and commands at present exceedingly beautiful scenery." At that point in time, its beautiful days were numbered.
