For a long time, I believed that the Old Portland Road out of St. Helens was the original CRH, and it may have been, early on but, by 1920, at least, the CRH followed the current alignment through the St. Helens area.

I still believe that this was the alignment until around 1919 to 1920. I suspect that the details on all of this will be cleared up when I have time to really go through the early OHC Biennial Reports.

When I took this Instagram photo on December 9, 2014, I believed that the Old Portland Road, heading south out of downtown St. Helens, was the original CRH.
However, more recent research indicates that this was not the case.
This bridge is only about 70 feet, not 90 feet, and is clearly different from the Milton Creek Bridge shown in the 1920 4th Biennial Report.
I have not found any information about this bridge, and I suspect this route was the alignment of the CRH until 1920, when the US 30 section through the St. Helens area was built.
