US 30 twists down to HUNT CREEK, 80.7 m. [West of Portland] then climbs a spur from which a desolate waste of logged over land extends in all directions. A high, sharply etched mountain (L), with sides bare of vegetation, shows the results of unrestricted timber cutting.

The original embankment fill for Route 2 was impressive here, but the massive embankment fill for modern U. S. 30 looms over everything here, dwarfing the remnants of the old highway. The original bridge, though, would have been tall and impressive.
