Spooky Abandoned Bat House
September 9, 2020
Looking at the Google Street View imagery from 2019, this house looks like it is very hard to see from the CRH, at least when the foilage is thick. It might be easier to see during the winter when the leaves are down.

Darren Sethe, 2011: This is actually right on Hwy 30 just north of Portland. I believe it's a little ways past Sauvie Island. If you're headed away from Portland it will be on the left. It sits on a hill right behind another building, but you can easily see it from the highway. It's pretty scary inside. We encountered bats.
Christina Stocks, 2013: Got permission to walk around the property and take pics. Even opened the front door. But not much room to walk around inside. Very low ceilings. Very weird. But so awesome to see in person and inside.
Don Anderson, 2016: Who did you get permission from in order to walk around the property?
Darren Sethe, 2016: From the caretaker who lives in the home right in front of it.
The Michael Anderson Show, 2017: Actually, me and my friend jazmine went to this house and explored the entire property and the inside... The address is actually 17015 NW St Helens Rd, Portland, OR 97231. 17007 NW St Helens Rd, Portland, OR 97231 is for the detached garage building structure in the front of the house by the road. There is also an abandoned trailer directly behind this old amazing house.
Darren Sethe, March 2020: I have no contact with the caretaker. We met her because we stopped and helped her catch her dog who was running around on the highway.
Darren Sethe, June 2020:I haven't been out there in years so I don't know if it's even still there. It's private property so you wouldn't be able to get too close unless you asked whoever is living in the house below (closer to the highway.)

Forgotten Oregon: Mystery house in Burlington
Richard Soenneker, September 8, 2017: That thing has been sitting there, apparently unused and empty, for at least 15 years, maybe 20... would love to know why. it's got such cool architecture!
Sandy Weedman, September 8, 2017: There were code problems. If I remember right, they could not solve one of them.
Susan Stelljes, September 8, 2017: I forget everything I heard about this house. My understanding is the man who owns, it just kept adding on to it over the years without permits or without it being up to code. Sometimes there appears to be a trailer in front.
Nicole Kennedy, September 8, 2017: It's being repaired, talked to the owner. Not original owner...the original owner died....he started building in the 70s and got caught without permits...he was building his bride a castle...there's even a big hole in the ground on the inside for a pool...
Rita Stearns, March 11, 2019: It seems this house has been in the building process since the 60's...not 70's.

Forgotten Oregon: March 11, 2019
Linda Benthin-Weirup, March 11, 2019: Always adding on.. I remember when it was just a plain old farm home
Sandy Weedman, March 11, 2019: It was never finished due to some things that couldn't be done to code, like sewer for one.
Jeffrey Niederle, March 12, 2019: It was built by a guy pat dudaley or something like that. His dad owned a earth moving company. A guy called smitty bought the house and had a shop there too. My dad was telling me about it right now. Lots of stories about the guy.

Past and Present Views Along the Columbia River Highway
Kirk J. Poole, September 9, 2020: This was covered on the news several years ago. There was some odd dude that was living and working on it. I bet he's still there. He sure never finished it! Best chance [to find the story] would be to search the Oregonian's archives. ...it's been on TV. When that guy passes on, they'll demo this place quick! None of it structurally sound. Just look at it!
