This was our second stay at Pukara-sa, even though we feel the price is on the higher side. But the place has everything to win you over: a beautiful traditional Okinawan house, a deserted coral beach less than a five-minute walk away, and a host who takes wonderful care of you throughout your stay.

昔ながらの赤瓦の屋根の家で過ごすことができました。
夜、寝るまでは窓を開けていたので、虫がビュンビュン飛んできて、自然を感じました（笑）。

We had a wonderful stay in a traditional Okinawan house with its beautiful old red-tile roof.
Until bedtime, we kept the windows open, so insects were flying around and we really felt close to nature! 😊
Mosquito coils and insect repellent spray were provided, and we were especially happy that the mosquito coil had already been lit for us.
Relaxing in the tatami room was such a pleasant experience!

We stayed at Pukara-sa for one night during a trip with my sister.
The space itself was so comfortable and peaceful that we both slept deeply. I usually have trouble sleeping when I stay somewhere unfamiliar, so it was a wonderful surprise to find ourselves sleeping so well.
We often see traditional Ryukyu houses on the remote islands of Okinawa, but since people still live in many of them, we had never had the opportunity to actually spend time inside one.
Being able to experience life inside a traditional Ryukyu house was a very special and memorable experience for us.
The breakfast was also delicious. ☺️
The entire space was wonderfully comfortable, but above all, it was filled with the warmth and kindness of the host. It is truly a lovely place.
We will definitely come back!

最新の設備が揃った、便利で快適なホテルのような宿ではありません。もしそうした滞在を求めているなら、リゾートなどを選んだ方がよいでしょう。
ここに泊まるのは、沖縄の島の暮らしを感じ、昔の沖縄に触れるためです。
エアコンがない代わりに、沖縄の土地そのものが持つ魅力を感じることができます。時には湿気や虫もあります。

そんな昔ながらの暮らしの中で、ひとつだけ現代的なのが浴室です。

This stay was a beautiful, timeless experience that no one seeking to immerse themselves in local culture should miss.
It is very important to understand what you are getting here: this is not a hyper-modern, amenity-filled stay. If that is what you are looking for, a resort may be a better choice.
You stay here to feel island life and connect with Okinawa as it was in the past.
You give up air conditioning in return for experiencing the character of the land itself, even if that sometimes means humidity and insects.
But that also gives you a glimpse into how local people traditionally lived with these conditions, back before air conditioning existed.
The one exception to that traditional experience is the bathroom. It was sleek, modern, and incredibly elegant.
I stayed at four different places around the island during my trip, and this was hands-down the best bathroom of them all.
So, if you are looking for an unforgettable stay, I 100% recommend this place.

A beautiful traditional house, meticulously cared for in every detail.
The host goes above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable and well looked after.

Even each food item had its name written on a small leaf in our own language.

A lovely place to stay.
However, the property is located next to the caretaker's home and other local residents, and because of the traditional open design of the house, we felt that we had to be careful about making too much noise.
It is a wonderful place for simply staying overnight and enjoying a peaceful environment, but it may not be the best choice if you are looking for a place to spend time chatting and having fun with a group of friends. Please keep this in mind when making your reservation.
The caretaker was also a very kind and pleasant person.

Pukara-sa is a one-group-per-day guesthouse located in a quiet local neighborhood, where guests can experience the atmosphere of a traditional Okinawan home. Rather than being a place for large groups or lively gatherings, we hope our guests will enjoy a peaceful stay surrounded by the character of the old house and the natural environment of Okinawa.
The house can be closed off from the outside by shutting the traditional wooden storm shutters, although its traditional construction is naturally different from that of a modern hotel.
We will continue to explain these characteristics of the house as clearly as possible, so that our guests can have a better understanding of what to expect and choose Pukara-sa with confidence.

We had a very comfortable stay in this beautiful, traditional house. It was clean, well cared for, and thoughtfully arranged.
The dinner was especially memorable. The owner prepared it personally, and we enjoyed grilling vegetables and meat over a hibachi.
Everything was fresh and there was plenty of food, so we had a wonderfully satisfying meal. 😊
The property is also close to the beach, so when our baby is a little older, we would love to come back and enjoy swimming together as a family.

We stayed for one night on December 10.
From the moment we arrived, the owner's warm and friendly hospitality made us feel that we were going to have a wonderful time here.
The house had the special atmosphere of a traditional Okinawan home. We enjoyed relaxing in the garden with a beer and forgetting about our everyday lives for a while.
Just beyond the fukugi tree-lined path near the house, there is the sea. Listening to the sound of the waves while spending time there was truly wonderful.
Dinner was delicious and there was plenty of food, which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was also delicious, and we were very satisfied with everything.
It was our first time sleeping inside a mosquito net, and we found it so comfortable that we wished we could just stay there and relax all day.
We were also able to see the Ryukyu puppies playing in the garden, which was very soothing.
We have already decided that we will definitely come back when we visit Okinawa again!

We were deeply impressed by this traditional Okinawan home.
The host told us about Okinawa's traditional red-tiled houses and how few of them remain today.
Walking barefoot on the wooden floor was very comfortable, and opening the traditional wooden shutters to let in the natural breeze made everything feel wonderful.
Just as the host recommended, we hung the mosquito net and slept very comfortably inside it.
We also loved the host's wonderful sense of style, including the traditional low table, Ryukyu glass cups, and woven baskets.
The toilet, washbasin, and bathroom were modern, clean, and easy to use.
The sea is just a short walk away along a small path surrounded by fukugi trees.
When we arrived, we were welcomed by Ruby, a Ryukyu dog.
We would definitely love to stay here again on our next trip to Okinawa!

However, the host came several times before the check-out time and asked if they could clean the room.
It was very uncomfortable and felt like my privacy was being invaded.

Our two nights in this traditionally built Okinawan house were a relaxing and wonderful experience.
The accommodation was extremely clean, and we really enjoyed being able to walk barefoot throughout the house.
The host was incredibly helpful. He made phone calls and reservations for us, and because we had to leave very early in the morning, he even prepared a packed lunch for us.
Having a car is very helpful, and it allows you to explore the beautiful area in northwestern Okinawa.

We stayed here for one night on March 27.
The house faithfully recreates the atmosphere of a traditional Okinawan home, while the bathroom and toilet are modern and beautifully designed.
It had been a very long time since I had slept inside a traditional mosquito net.
The beach and an interesting local grocery store with a great selection of products are both very close to the house.
There is also a goat shelter in the garden, where we had the chance to meet a mother goat and her kid, both native to Okinawa.
The owner also told us many interesting stories about Okinawan culture, including shisa, traditional stone walls, and red-tiled roofs.
It was a very interesting and memorable experience.

蚊帳の中で寝るのは、ずいぶん久しぶりでした。
