Episode 3

Moving the House

Finding the house was only the beginning.

To give this old home a new life, it had to be carefully moved and rebuilt.

It was not simply a matter of taking the house apart and putting it back together.

The original materials had to be handled with care, while the traditional character of the house was preserved.

The wooden structure, the traditional building techniques, and the handmade Ryukyu red roof tiles were all part of what made this house special.

Piece by piece, the old house was given a new place to stand.

The process took time, patience, and a great deal of care.

But little by little, the house began to feel alive again.

An old Okinawan home, which might otherwise have disappeared, was given another chance to welcome people.

And that is how this house came to be Pukara-sa.
