A traditional home comes with a few differences from a hotel.
Pukara-sa is a traditional Okinawan home, not a modern hotel.
We want you to enjoy the character of the house and the slower rhythm of island life, but there are a few things we would like you to know before your stay.
There is no air conditioning in the guest rooms.
The house is designed to make use of natural airflow, with open windows, deep eaves, and traditional features suited to Okinawa's climate.
Electric fans are provided, and an electric heater is available during the cooler months.
The guest rooms do not have modern aluminum window frames.
Instead, the house retains its traditional wooden doors and shutters.
At night, the shutters can be closed from inside, allowing you to enjoy the quiet of the old house while keeping the room secure.
You will sleep on a futon laid directly on the traditional tatami floor.
For some guests, this may be a new experience.
For others, it may bring back memories of a simpler way of sleeping.
A traditional mosquito net is provided over your futon.
It is part of the experience of staying in an old Okinawan home, and many guests enjoy the peaceful feeling of sleeping inside it.
Pukara-sa is in a quiet village surrounded by nature.
You may hear birds in the morning, insects at night, or the sound of the wind moving through the trees.
These sounds are part of the experience.
Pukara-sa is not designed to be exactly like a hotel.
It is a place to experience an old Okinawan home, with its beauty, simplicity, and connection to nature.
If you are looking for something a little different from an ordinary hotel stay, we hope you will enjoy your night at Pukara-sa.
