Get Started Today With Pigeon Farming...
At the beginning of my journey, I did not know anything about pigeons. I am a doctor and have no farming experience. I had only a small place in my house to start. I did not have any contact with any other breeders in Pakistan.
First, I started with racing pigeons. Racing pigeons are expensive and their prices were out of my reach at that time. So I started searching for some cheaper pigeon breeds. Then I came to know about fantails. Fantails are cheap, easy to raise and can multiply fast. Their meat is also very delicious.
I started my first batch of 20 fantails from the market and reared them in my house.
After one year, my family members said to me; "Doctor Sahib you are a doctor, not a pigeon farmer". And after every two or three months, they suggested that I should sell my birds and forget about them. But somehow, I kept going on because at the back of my mind was this idea: "In the future, there will be something good".
My family members used to eat meat very rarely but when they ate pigeon meat they liked it very much and now they keep asking me: "When will you slaughter some birds?" They love eating it!
Pigeon farming in Pakistan is highly profitable. The benefit of pigeon farming can be seen in the following points:
* Pigeons grow very fast and mature for breeding within six months of age.
* They start laying eggs regularly at the age of eight months.
