Animal Farm Pigeons

The pigeons are messengers for the revolution. They fly through the countryside, spreading word of Animal Farm's successes and asking other animals to rebel. The pigeons represent revolutionaries like Lenin and Stalin, who helped spread communist rebellion throughout Europe and Asia.


The animals had been certain that they could not fail to win in the end. But then two days ago the news had leaked out that enemy pigeons were circling over the farm and had even been able to descend and carry off Boxer's poster, which had been put up between the orchard and the spinney. This was a terrible blow, but the animals were not disheartened. Comrade Napoleon said that after all these things happened it was more necessary than ever to work for victory.


He therefore instructed Mollie, who was a good runner, to take his place at the next meeting of the farm, carry his written instructions to the others, and teach them this new tune. Mollie agreed readily, for she was devoted to Napoleon. In a very few minutes she returned with some other pigeons who had agreed to undertake the job.
