How To Hand Raise Baby Pigeons

This is a detailed guide on how to hand raise baby pigeons (also known as squabs) from hatching until they are ready to be weaned and on their own. Hand raising baby pigeons is a wonderful way to enjoy aviculture and pigeon fancying.

There are many varieties of domestic pigeons, including tumblers, rollers, homers and others. They come in all kinds of colors and have all kinds of different markings. Some have crests, some have beards, some look like little doves, some have feathered legs and some have very thin legs. I've been breeding domestic pigeons for a few years now and love it! I also love sharing my knowledge with other people that want to get started breeding pigeons or just learn more about them. I hope this article will inspire you to try your hand at breeding them!

The best thing to do if you find a baby bird is to place it back in the nest if you can do so safely. If the parents are nearby, they may still be feeding the young bird. Young birds often leave the nest before they are able to fly, and spend time on or near the ground learning from their parents how to forage for food and protect themselves from predators. This stage of their life is called "fledging". If you have concerns about whether a bird on the ground is truly orphaned or injured, please see our page about What To Do If You Find A Baby Bird On The Ground for some tips on how to tell.
