Get Started Today With Pigeon Farming...
Pigeon is a delicious and nutritious meat that is popular in many parts of the world. It's also a relatively easy meat to raise, requiring only a small amount of space and little time or maintenance. Here is how you can raise pigeons for meat.
1. Create a basic pigeon trap by purchasing wire netting or chicken wire, and creating a box shape with it. The sides should be at least three feet high to prevent the pigeons from flying over the sides. The trap can be any length and width, but for the average family two feet wide by four feet long will suffice. The trap should be placed directly on the ground, without any sort of platform beneath it.
2. Dig a shallow trench around the perimeter of the trap, making sure that the bottom of the trench is level so that it won't collect water during rain storms. The trench should be about six inches wide and six inches deep. Place the trap into this trench, making sure that the top of it sits about two inches above ground level so that rain water flows underneath instead of pooling on top. This will keep your pigeons dry and prevent diseases from spreading through wet conditions.
3. Securely fast
Breeders have been raising pigeons for centuries. They are good at it, and enjoy the challenge. They are apt to be a tad secretive, however, as they do not want their competition to know exactly how they produce such prize birds. However, in general terms you can raise pigeons for meat very successfully if you follow a few basic guidelines.
