Get Started Today With Pigeon Farming...
All pigeons are born the same way, and I have raised hundreds of them. In this article I will describe how to raise and train pigeons.
First, you need to buy some baby pigeons. These are called squabs. If you want to raise white racing pigeons, buy white squabs. If you want homing pigeons, buy gray squabs. If you want fancy pigeons, buy red squabs.
You can buy squabs from a pigeon breeder or a pigeon store. If there is no pigeon store near where you live, you can order them online from someone like me.
To raise pigeons, you need a place to keep them. This is called a loft. The loft should have ventilation and space enough for the number of pigeons you intend to keep.
Get pigeon food from your local pigeon supply store. Also get grit, which the pigeons will eat to help digest their food. Other supplies include water bottles or containers, and pills for lice and worms. You may want to buy or build nest boxes and perches as well.
Check with your local city or county clerk's office to see if there are any ordinances governing how close a pigeon coop must be kept to the neighbors' property lines. If not, it is probably best to maintain a distance of at least ten feet (three meters).
Pigeons are wonderful animals. They are not just birds; they are unusually smart birds. They can be taught to do tricks (such as racing home from long distances), and even to play simple video games with a joystick.
