Get Started Today With Pigeon Farming...
To start, here is some advice on how to raise pigeons for food. First, you will need a place to keep them. I would recommend a covered pen that has plenty of room for the pigeons to fly around and roost. The pen should be tall enough so the pigeons can not fly over the top. It is best to build your pen on a hill or slope so it will drain well, or dig ditches around it so water will drain away. You should clean out the droppings every couple of weeks, or as often as needed.
Next, you will need something for them to roost on. You can buy perches at most feed stores but if you prefer, you can make your own from 2x4s or 4x4s that have been split in half lengthwise (this makes for better footing). The perch should be about 6 inches above the ground and about 18 inches long. If you make your own perch, be sure that there are no rough edges where the pigeon's legs could get caught and injured.
The next thing you will need is a nest box for the pigeons to lay their eggs in. The box needs to have a small hole in one side near the top big enough for a pigeon
Pigeons are a type of game bird. They can be cooked, eaten and taste like chicken. A pigeon from the store will cost you about three dollars. Raising them yourself is much cheaper, even if you have to buy the bird food. Before you start raising pigeons for food you should ask yourself if it is legal in your area.
