Roughly 25 years ago, an anomaly was born on the Plains of Ruthal, more specifically in the Redskin Cliff Giant tribe. One day an almost completely ashen white baby Giant was born, this was a strange occurrence for most if not all Cliff Giants have a rusty almost red skin tone. Furthermore, this baby did not have the elegant almost sleek facial structure iconic for the Cliff Giant species, this baby had rather monstrous features and looked more like a baby Dragon.
This caused concern and superstition among the elder Giants until one of the elder Giants adept with magic performed a ritual to ascertain the nature of this strange baby and what should be done with him. The ritual was a success and the elder knew that this baby was of no threat to them and in fact was a boon. Once news of this became known to the older Giants they were no longer wary of the child and soon due to their natural kindness began to treat it as if it were normal. The other Giant children, however, did not treat young Rogul with such kindness and ostracized him, this caused for a lonely upbringing. This became a big problem later in his life when he could've used the experience to make friends. One younger child was particularly vicious in his treatment of Rogul, this treatment became even worse when Rogul began his training as a dragon hunter. Lothark was jealous that Rogul showed more promise than him as a dragon hunter and gladly wanted to take him down a peg.
This would never have been successful if he was alone, sadly he was not. Lothark quickly noticed he needed all the help he could get to get his rival to fade away from the memory of his peers. He soon found out there were others interested in such a special creature. He made contact with those creatures and found an entire cult willing to "take him in". After leaking more sensitive information than Judas the deed had been done...
When Rogul was 15 he was training to be a dragon hunter for the Redskin Giant tribe.
These training sessions often times included being outside safe areas to practice tracking and some semblance of stealth. Dragon Hunters were noble warrior's among the tribe and hunted these dragons with great risk. They did so however because the materials they gathered brought great benefit to the tribe. The best dragon hunters were seen as heroes which had great political power and wealth.
During one of these training sessions, his party was ambushed by a band of Snakefolk raiders, Lothark had given the Snakefolk's enough information to make this possible. This race of cobra like beings pride themselves in having poisonous fangs with potent paralyzing agents strong enough to topple Giants.
Due to Rogul's special heritage, he was immune to the surprise attack and was forced to fight the band of more experienced and numerous party of raiders, whom in the end managed to overpower Rogul and knock him unconscious.
When next he woke, he was bound to a wall with thick metal chains in a dimly lit cell. Soon after Rogul was greeted by a Snakefolk in strange attire who had entered his cell talking in a strange language (Draconic).
This Snakefolk was no normal raider this was a cult-leader whose cult worships Sethrallis a deceased serpent like god. The Snakefolk had seen his special physical form and thought of him as a special sign from their long-dead deity. The normal raiders, however, saw in him a literal gold mine or in this case platinum mine.
Rogul's platinum colored scales would be harvested from him in order to be used as a material in making fake platinum coins.
When not in his cell Rogul would be forced to partake in brutal gladiator fights, which has lead to him being proficient with a large number of weapons and armor.
After a long 5 years of this hell, a chance appeared! His body had strengthened enough to be able to fight for longer periods of time and together with the other gladiators he partook in a prison riot which eventually led him to the laboratory which housed the Cult of Sethrallis.
Here he found a notebook about his species in Draconic which held notes about his body and possible abilities he had yet to know about.
Many slaves and gladiators went home to their families and friends Rogul, however, had no desire to do so. He chose to wander the plains of Ruthal and learn how to decode this language which contained the secrets of his body.
Soon enough Rogul found a wizard traveling with merchant caravans. He could read and write the language which he had hoped to learn. After a few weeks Rogul already knew the basics and as if it was his native tongue he learned it astonishingly fast.
This new understanding of his own body made him able to use his breath attack. This, however, was nothing compared to the friendship he found at the same time. On his travels, mercenary people would shy away from him, due to his immense size and scarred, wounded hide and dragon-like head. Because of this, he chooses to hide most of his body with armor/bandages and a large bloodied cloak to keep his visage hidden, however, eventually he found friendship in a small creature named Gleep. Gleep might've been small in size but was big in heart. They soon became best friends. Rogul now goes nowhere without Gleep.
On his travels Rogul would often times see the infamous Red Dragons of Ruthal soar through the skies, though Rogul was adorned with wings of his own his time in the slavers arena had robbed them of the strength necessary to fly, which instilled a deep almost instinctual yearning inside of him to find a way to one day fly on his own.
Still searching for a purpose in life and looking for a way to fly, Rogul has grown tired of the Plains of Ruthal a land which has caused him great pain, he now travels west to see what the rest of the world has to offer. He does so however while searching for ways to strengthen his wings and be able to soar the skies once more!
