Bobobo grew up in a family of magical casters. His mother whose name was Kokiri was also a witch. She came from a long line of ley line witches. Leyline witches mainly draw power from the sources of the magic of the world itself, known as ley lines. Bobobo, however, seems the first in the line of at least five generations to have no latent ability to tap into the ley line power. This disappointed his mother enough that she did not want anything to do with him from the age of eight.
Okina, Bobobo's father( a sorcerer) did not like that Bobobo was so helpless when it came to magic. He himself had an impressive bloodline that he inherited from his father and went on for who knows how many generations. However, his father and he shared a common interest and this was his books. Okina had hundreds of books, having read most of them Okina encouraged young Bobobo to learn as much as he could from them. Hoping the latent power in Bobobo's blood would surge eventually from either his bloodline or the ley lines.
Bobobo's sister Kiki(a witch 2 years younger than Bobobo) was only six years old when she connected with the ley lines for the first time in her life. Hailed as the families favorite magic caster she gained access to all of the perks that came in the household by being a magic caster. All inner-doors in their house were operated by magic. If Bobobo wanted access to any room that was not on the outside of the house he always had to ask permission and get his dad to open the door for him.
His sister hereby gained access to her mother's brewing grounds. Kokiri was a famous potion brewer that could turn any spell she knew into a potion. Being renowned in the area for making potions that could heal, cure disease and even cure blindness Bobobo always wanted to learn how to brew potions like her.
This, however, did not happen and soon Bobobo reached the age of thirteen, the age at which a Owlfolk is supposed to fly from the nest and gain real-world knowledge and experience. At this point, his mother had completely rejected Bobobo and his father gave up any hope of his bloodline being passed on through him. Kind of embarrassed by her offspring being so powerless Kokiri was glad to see him go. And gave him an old flying broom.
Happy with his present (falsely thinking it was a sign of respect from his mother)he set out to a town a small day's flight from his hometown. The name of this town was Koriko.
He quickly noticed the issues he ran into when trying to make a living. Being basically powerless he could do little against a goblin so being an adventurer was out of the question. He also never got to learn how to brew a potion like his mother does so instead he used the broom he got for delivering things all over the town.
After he did so for around a year, however, he noticed a crow always following him when he was making his deliveries. He was doing pretty well for himself and decided the small crow looked a little skinny. After being done delivering items for the day he brought a loaf of bread and fed some crumbs to the small crow.
The small crow and Bobobo quickly became friends. He had a hard time making friends because of his lack of charismatic traits. His father always worked around this by casting spells but sadly for him this was not an option. The small crow, however, did not mind Bobobo's mediocre manners. Soon the tiny crow and Bobobo did almost everything together from making deliveries to going grocery shopping. Bobobo decided to name him Kuro because the feathers of this particular crow were dark even for a crow. Sometimes he could swear the feathers weren't just black but a void, sucking up light.
About four years later the number of crows he fed daily had increased to the amount that he had to buy an entire loaf of bread daily. This came with its benefits, mom's old broom was starting to break down. And the crows actually didn't mind carrying small stuff as long as they got their bread at the end of the day.
Skip forward two years and Bobobo's delivery service gained quite a name among the locals, Bobobo's crows brought anything they wanted anywhere in the city as long as they paid them. One particularly tiny crow, however, seemed stuck to Bobobo's shoulder.
This, however, did not last very long. The crows wanted more and more, and soon bread was not enough. They knew Bobobo had grown dependant on them and they knew he could not continue his delivery service now that his mom's broom is getting worse and worse.
Bobobo himself, of course, did not see this coming. Some bold crows started stealing some of the stuff they were supposed to deliver and instead of trying to fix the problem Bobobo refunded any and all damage the crows were doing. Bobobo was often extorted for small amounts of money because of this. Bobobo was not capable in combat and as soon as people smelled money he quickly went out of business.
To settle all his debts he sold what remained of his small cottage and his mother's broom in favor of tracking around the local area. With nowhere to go Bobobo was heading towards the one place he always dreaded to visit as a child, the ley line. Not feeling connected to the ley line since birth, had left a sour flavor in his mouth every time his mother forced him to go there.
His sister who had her first magical experience there (blasting Bobobo with burning hands), did not want Bobobo to come on the trips to the ley line. Quoting her mother stating that those who cannot connect to the ley line, were no family in the first place.
Kuro seemed not to mind it much when Bobobo was moving around as long as he could be as close as possible. Bobobo actually considered returning to his family home for a few days but decided not to, since he was probably not welcome in the first place. An Owlfolk had to prove he had achieved a considerable feat in his life before he should return home. While making his first friend ever was a major feat for Bobobo, this did not count as a major feat.
So instead of heading straight to his old hometown of Dalarna, he opted to head to the nearest ley line he knew of. He was taken their many times, mainly for her mother and his younger sister who enjoyed it so much when their powers were enhanced by being near a ley line.
Enough he thought by himself, fuck these burn marks, thank God offensive spell casting isn't the biggest forte of my family line or I would have fucking died. He tried to remember where exactly this ley line was but found it hard to locate the same place he went to in his childhood. Seemingly aware of the situation, however, Kuro's head seemed to always point on the direction he wanted to go.
Bewildered by the situation Bobobo used this ability as much as he could. Always remembering to reward Kuro with a bit of bread when they arrived where he wanted. After a short week of travel, they arrived at the ley line. This, however, was not exactly as he remembered. He always saw the ley line as just a nice hill with lots of grass and a very old tree.
This time, however, everything seemed like there was a yellow wash as if there was light emanating from the ground itself. Bobobo felt warm and pleasant here, wondering if he could finally tap into his native spellcasting he wondered if he could cast fire spells, he held his hand in front of him and tried to imagine flames coming from his hands. Drawing energy from his belly like all the sorcerer books he had read his dad owned.
Sadly for Bobobo nothing seemed to happen, not giving up Bobobo tried for multiple hours thinking of multiple elements, beams, and rays. When he was finally about to give in he noticed that the huge tree had changed.
Bobobo thought back in order of which he tried to cast spells and noticed a few hundred arcane marks scattered all across the tree. Exactly in the same order! He saw multiple arcane marks in the shapes of the spells he tried to accomplish. Not wasting any time Bobobo shouted at the top of his lungs!
Oh great patrons of magic big or small, please bestow on me the ability of magic. I will use it in any way shape or form you would please. Out of nowhere, a weird light engulfed Bobobo, after a second or two he noticed it wasn't a light. He was looking right in the eyes of a Siroi! It simply purred slightly for a second and then disappeared into the shadows, that was not there before. Bobobo felt a weird sensation of power since then from somewhere in his presence. On most days Bobobo is unable to detect any trace of Shiro(name of the Siroi) but sometimes it graces Bobobo with its presence and even grants it some extended use of magical abilities.
The yellow shine the earth had before seemed to fade, and Kuro no longer looked like his feathers had the taint of the void, he was the void. Remembering what kind of creature he was, was not hard at all. The most common messenger bird in purgatory was a well-documented bird by magic casters of all classes. These creatures were very curious and majestic creatures.
He felt a surge of power coming from Kuro into him. He tried to channel it as the books described but could not handle the sudden switch of arcane energy in his body, and he fell unconscious.
After waking up from this Bobobo felt better than ever. Feeling empowered and happy he called Kuro and set out to his old town where people were ever so keen to extort the small Owlfolk and take his money.
The most prominent of bastards Bobobo knew in the city was Garnag. This Orc had a small gang and they took turns extorting him for money. Eager to test his new powers, Bobobo sneaked into his home. There he was, Garnag and two of his gang.
Garnag sitting atop a large barrel of ale raised a mug of ale high in the air almost spilling beer on Bobobo's feathers. The other two Orcs responded by raising their mugs as well. Bobobo first tried out something he had read about being a beginner spell in the books of his father.
Bobobo tried to sneakily cast daze onto Garnag, Success! Garnag's mug of ale fell to the ground as Garnag looks around dazed. One of the other Orcs instantly spots Bobobo and tries to hit him with a mug of ale.
The mug makes a breaking noise on impact, being only slightly smaller than Bobobo he immediately gets flashbacks to his childhood and how his mother used to put him to sleep. Bobobo takes the same form as he remembers his mom took and speaks the same words: Slumber!
One Orc falls face frontal to the ground seemingly asleep. Not responding when the Orc next to him screams his name. Bobobo, however, did not waste a minute. While distracted by all these strange events he targets Garnag and casts the spell beguiling gift. Having seen his dad use it on a daily basis it felt almost as a second nature to him as he hands him a poisoned cookie.
After happily consuming the cookie the Orcs suddenly looks like it changed color. Not settling for anything but full revenge Bobobo orders Kuro to distract the now frightened and still awake orc. While slowly landing atop a sleeping dwarf. Remembering all the times this dwarf took his hard earned money fills him with rage as takes an egg out of his robe.
He casts the spell poisoned egg on it and simply places it atop his mouth. After placing the egg he takes his knife and with a small tap breaks the egg in many parts. While the orcs slumber away, not knowing it just ingested enough poison to kill an elephant, Bobobo fixed his gaze on the remaining Orc.
It seems Kuro does not even require his help, this, however, is his revenge and he will deliver this satisfying end himself no matter how capable Kuro is of doing it himself. He, however, feels Kuro's power surging through him as he approaches the Orc, as soon as Bobobo touches the Orc he discharges all his feelings in the top of his wing and the Orc is literally shocked so hard his eyes pop out of its sockets and he falls to the ground without a sound.
Bobobo was feeling weaker than normal after all this as if he had exchanged part of his life force in order to accomplish this. Mentally, however, he has never felt so good. His father would be proud, he is finally a real magic caster.
Thinking it is a shame to let this place go to waste Bobobo moved into Garnag's house.
Soon finding out he has not kept any of the gold he extorted from him. Luckily now with the powers of a magic caster, Bobobo knew he had all the time of the world and would not have to worry about being extorted for money anytime soon.
About a year after moving into his new place tales started to form around the town of Koriko, Bobobo was back and with a new business. Doing all kind of handy magic for a small price.
He became the go-to magic caster for small wounds and small afflictions.
Because Bobobo was quite intelligent, he builds his own library with the funds he raised from these activities. Quickly figuring out how he could use the bulk of his newfound powers but also figuring out how his powers worked.
He soon figured out this power he has he gained from communing with his familiar but not from his familiar. He was tempted to pursue this source but also afraid. He can always remember the power he felt as he discharged an amount of electricity he did not think possible into the Orc's skull.
Deciding he needed to gather more knowledge first he kept on building his library and knowledge until he felt ready.
After sticking around for three hundred years Bobobo had gained quite the reputation as an annoying healer that people rather avoided if there was no need. This led to a lack of living funds for Bobob. As a rival healer set up in the town he saw his profit shrinking and decided he had learned all he could from books.
Owlfolk tradition did tell him to get knowledge and experience and not just one or the other. Bobobo started to prepare for his journey southward. He always wanted to travel southward. He often heard tales of his dad of great adventures guilds and big cities.
The tales his dad used to tell him of the big cities in which he resided in houses as big as castles and fights with dragons and mythical beast alike. Even the bookworm Bobobo had to admit that after 300 years of reading books he was ready for something a bit more active.
With his mind sharpened his mental state better than ever he felt his body has weakened a bit over the last 300 years. Determined nonetheless he told Kuro they had a journey to embark on. Being able to carry almost nothing made this hard on 1 end and very easy on the other. He locked the door carrying nothing but a magic dagger he picked up from a merchant a 100 years back a small bit of armor and all of his gold.
Before he left, however, he made sure everyone knew he was planning to come back someday. The people of the town knew Bobobo had quite a book collection but also knew that he would notice if even one book got misplaced.
Will anyone try to steal his books? This held Bobobo back, just for a moment, however. He knew that a stupid adventurer might try, but anyone from town? It could happen... Bobobo knew some spells that could prevent it but because of the lack of experience, he could not perform them. He instead purchased a few bear traps and hid them the best he could with magic.
That should do it, Bobobo thought, pay the blood price for it. After this Bobobo set off to the south in search of adventure.
Patron
After having called out for a patron, Amenadiel granted him his wish. He bestowed upon him his powers of time. As a servant of the fallen Bobobo is allowed to murder freely, although Amenadiel doesn't condone the blood of an innocent. Due to this Bobobo isn't allowed to harm a peaceful and sentient individual, who has done no harm, or is under aged. If he does Amenadiel will punish him by restraining his powers for the rest of the day.
