Beginning in 5784 (Sept.-Oct. 2023) I will order these poetic notes on the weekly parshah beginning with Beresheit. I will be using the drafts that I completed in 5783, with, in some cases, some final edits.
Poetic notes on parashat Beresheit
Based on Genesis 1:2
…the earth was vacuous and void, and there was darkness upon the face of the deep [i.e., the waters], and the "wind of G-d" [the Throne of Glory, impelled by His utterance] hovered over the face of the waters. [The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein]
The sages of the Torah speak of the spirit of God in this verse as the spirit of Messiah and as the “Throne of Glory”. The meaning in context has to do with the Creator having an eye to His final dwelling place on earth in the Temple that would be built by the Messiah of Israel. First there would need to be a preparation of the earth, and through this the preparation of all creation. In order for this to come about, there would need to be a “regenesis”. This would ultimately be brought about through Torah Israel under the headship of her Messiah. And this would be done in order for there to be a holiness even in the lowest parts of Creation, even upon the earth, where the Divine Presence could dwell, where His Throne of Glory could rest.
