Balak, בָּלָק  "Balak" Numbers 22:2-25:9

With The Sword Of Moshe

Poetic notes on parashat Balak 5782*

Balak the King of Moab feared Moshe

more than he feared death

Bilaam did not even fear truth

He was well known as a spiritual hitman

who loved money more than life

Balak knew he was the perfect hire

Deeply grieved with Bilaam

HaShem allowed him to try his best

to earn the fee of a harlot’s mystery, 

to curse His people for Balak,

the people who are God’s blessing for the world

At the top of Bilaam’s mind was a curse

but from the tip of his tongue

rolled off only blessings, blessing upon blessing

For God turned the world of Bilaam

inside out and upside down

Where Bilaam thought of raising up

the kings of Edom

HaShem brought them low and raised up King David,

right from the prophecy of Bilaam’s mouth

Where Bilaam thought

of making the king of Rome

to be the final emperor of the world,

HaShem pulled the prophecy of Mashiach,

the king of eternal Jerusalem,

like teeth out of Bilaam’s mouth

Then Bilaam, the one eyed pirate, saw

that the genius of evil

could never beat the children of Israel

HaShem had promised Abraham

that He would claim as His own 

the branch of Humanity

that would arise from Abraham

At Mount Sinai,

after redeeming them out of Egypt,

the Creator of heaven and earth

made the family of Israel into a legal nation 

and called them by His name,

The promise He had made to Abraham

had been private, like an engagement

Then He announced His espousal with Israel to all the world,

saying by the gift of His Torah to Israel,

“I shall be their God and they shall be my people!”

And the children of Israel called Him their only One

Therefore, the genius of evil could not beat them

"Let the the nations therefore 

become carnally one with them," 

Bilaam slyly whispered,

"Let every nation give Israel the blessing of children,"

Bilaam wryly devised

"Then, Israel will be stirred into the multitude"

"Even more," Bilaam schemed

"If Moab cannot assimilate them alone,

let Moab and Midian be nationally married to Israel

Israel’s deepest treasures will then be open to all"

Then the daughters of Moab and Midian

approached the children of Israel

The daughters of the Moabites

tried to inherit the wealth of Israel’s endowment

before the inheritance had come to its time of fulfillment

Also, the daughters of the Midianites,

brought with them the practice

of trying to know the creature and idolize it,

as if it were the Creator

Together, they approached the children of Israel, saying,

“Establish a tent for us to be alone with HaShem among you

Our seed and our gods will be children of your God

And we will circumcise for you

all the families of the earth!”

But Pinchas came

and plunged a sword of Moshe 

through Bilaam’s scheme

The illness of Midian was surgically removed

Then King David also came

and pitched the tent of truth

over the corners of Moab

So also a son of David

will take a sword of Moshe

and pierce the dream of the mystery harlot

An mystery empire rules in the world 

in Bilaam’s spirit with an artificial truth

It built its city on the mound of Bilaam’s grave,

the mound of Mammon

The sword of Moshe in the hand of Mashiach

will surgically remove that tumour

Then the soul of Balak will be freed from fear

and the soul of Bilaam will weep with Esau

The soul of Jacob will be strong and rule

through the eternal covenant of his God

The Torah of peace shall  be a light that shines

from Jacob’s anointed heart

The Land of Israel will receive as one all her Sabbath days,

her Sabbatical weeks and Jubilee years

The Jerusalem of David will be built in peace and glory

Through her mitzvot and her faith,

she will conquer death

The joy of her nuptials will be forever
