ECOSOC COMSES 3 & PRESS CONFERENCE
Upon entering the room there seemed to be some apparent tension between the delegates of Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, perhaps this being the aftermath of the former saying that the latter complains. This committee session began with the motion proposed by Germany which is ‘Donor Countries mechanism upon measurements’. In a short interview, the delegate of Germany states that they had hoped the other countries would be aware of their strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, and needs. They also stated that they are very open regardless of economic stances meaning that economic stances shouldn’t be the constraining category on who should be the donor and the recipient, especially within the current pandemic. In a short interview, the delegate of Japan briefly explained their ‘Mt. Fuji Shaped Healthcare’, where there will be an advanced analysis towards the recipient country which will take time but it will have donor countries to fulfill the target. After a crisis motion was given by the IPI editor which was not directly addressed as the delegates voted on an unmoderated caucus. Though it would seem that because of the unmoderated caucus conflict has erupted being that the UK delegate brought to light the fact that South Africa has a high rate of corruption within the government, this was challenged by both South Africa and Zimbabwe who both took offense to such ‘accusations’.
Afterward was the press conference, each council gave a speech which was followed by a QnA session. For the delegates of ILO, upon asking them to further elaborate on their monitoring system and what sanctions will be given to companies who still accept child labor. They responded that they will monitor programs that will contain specific criteria for companies and this will communicate in a way that the government will issue a new rule official statement for the companies where they should abide by it. After which was the ECOSOC session in which this writer asked whether they have found a solution regarding the crisis topic that was previously given within your committee session, to which they responded that about how the EU should pose solutions that maintain transparency. They have also said that it would seem some countries wish to continue the way such is done previously because they don’t have any facilitation.
