Is A Combination Of Both Allies A Possibility?
A heated debate between two allies in today’s third committee session was a place for both allies of a variety of countries, including China and its allies, and Uganda and its allies to show their different approaches on handling the crisis with LRA, as shown from both of their working papers. China and allies like France and Canada suggest a more optimistic approach with its peace agenda by putting forward negotiation to uphold the issue. Meanwhile, Uganda and allies like Russia and South Sudan, Central African Republic which are actually the affected countries in this situation, prefer a more urgent approach with using military actions to completely get the expected result.
With two allies having completely different standpoint in fighting this issue. Delegates from both allies were stubborn in upholding their own agenda. China mentioned the importance of negotiation, considering from past actions with how the retaliation of LRA caused by the military operation from Operation Lightning Thunder, and huge military expenses as USA has given much expenses to fund military operations. However, this issue is in an urgent state where many civilians have been affected by the violations LRA has conducted, and past peace agendas have been done as well. Hence, an emergency measure has to be done in order to completely abolish the issue.
In the press conference, the representatives have stated that both allies are slowly progressing towards a collaborative solution. However, to find a solution there must be idealisms sacrificed. With how both allies seem to have such stubborn opinions in previous committee sessions, the final collaboration between the two is still in question. Which countries will give up their idealism to look at the reality that some measures are necessary considering past actions?
Nonetheless, the most important thing is to protect the civilians and gain their trust back towards the government and the UN. With that, agreement of both allies is possible, but it might take serious considerations and debates for each other to hold down their idealisms.
