The Netherlands and Its System of Donor Countries
An epitome of global unity, foreign aid is one of the international relations programs in helping each other by exchanging support mainly to developing countries such as humanitarian relief, economic assistance, military aid, and healthcare programs. This importance of foreign aid can be seen as there are less developed countries in the middle of international contests. Other countries can help maintain a better environment for those in need. However, there have been contracts of misuse of the transaction of foreign aids in which there are a few problems countries have acknowledged in its process. Lack of innovation, monitoring, and accountability were mentioned. Netherlands also mentioned that misuse, abuse, and corruption are the key factors of the misuse of this issue. Corruption is also highly mentioned as the root cause for the issue. This stimulated the importance of transparency in dealing with this issue. Hence, countries have different approaches on moving on from this issue.
The Netherlands proposes collaboration of international countries on monitoring systems from country to country, instead of leader to leader. How? This collaboration can be found within the cooperation of donor countries in providing aid for conflicted countries. System will be made to be more efficient by collaborating with geographically closer donor countries to the recipient country for a more efficient process as the recipient country could have a database management system to confirm and distribute the aid for the better of transparency and accountability while working with existing bodies such as OECD, WHO, and the country’s government as the monitor. The local task force should also provide an annual report and target for recipient countries as a track record in utilizing the aid as a form of measurement.
