Readdressing The Role of African Union in Conflict Management: Revamping The African Union Peace Support Operations
African Union is a regional organization composed of 55 member states in African continent. It has several mandates including to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of African countries and to promote peace and security across the African continent. Therefore, to fulfill all their mandates and objectives, the African Union needs to reconstruct their approach in resolving conflicts, such as through rectifying the Peace Support Operation done by the African Union.
As one of the organs within African Union, the Peace and Security Council is mandated to prevent and manage conflicts happening across the African continent. One of its ways to resolve the conflicts is by deploying special missions to the conflict area, called the Peace Support Operations (PSO). However, even though its main objective is to prevent and manage conflict, PSOs often generate other conflicts and problems in the African continent. With that said, a reconstruction of the African Union's PSO is needed to achieve global peace and wellbeing for all.
