Robertiello, Gina

Dr. Gina Robertiello received a B.S. Degree in Administration of Justice (1991), Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, a Certificate in Criminology, and a Minor in Sociology. She obtained her M.A.

Degree in Criminal Justice (1993) from Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey. Her Ph. D. was completed

in Criminal Justice (2000) from Rutgers Graduate School of Criminal Justice, Newark, N.J. Her doctoral dissertation was entitled Police and Citizen Perceptions of Police Power). The goal of this research was to develop a definitive picture of how police and citizens viewed the typical street encounter and determine how contextual variables such as demographic and situational characteristics were expected to influence the

handling and outcomes of encounters. Her first book was published in 2004 (Edwin Mellen Press), based on her doctoral research.

My second book, Use and Abuse of Police Power: Historical Milestones and Current Controversies is in press now. Its slated for a May 2017 pub date.

Dr. Robertiello is a Full Professor, and Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice at Felician College, in N.J.

She teaches the Senior Research Courses, as well as the “theory” classes, including Criminological Theory and Victimology, as well as courses on Police, Domestic Violence, and Sociology. At Northampton she teachers Criminology and Sociology of Deviance (both fully online), and has been with NCC for over 4 years. She has published over 25 articles and book chapters, completed many book reviews, and, has a number of articles in press and under review. She has attended and presented at many conferences over her career, and continues to guest lecture and mentor students.

Dr. Robertiello lives in N.J with her husband and three children. Her philosophy in the classroom includes: honesty, integrity, collegiality and professionalism in a non-intimidating environment. She is dedicated to challenging her students, and appreciates being challenged back by them. Her goal is not only to teach them something every day, but to also learn something from them every day.
