I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit. I went on for my Master's in Social Work and graduated from Marywood University in 1987. My work has been in the mental health field for the past 25 years. I am interested in the interaction between the individual, groups, and community.
Currently, I work full time as a psychotherapist in the Outpatient Department at St. Luke's Hospital Institute for Behavioral Medicine. I have supervised MSW candidates and have spoken on various mental health topics in the community. In addition, my employment history has included crisis intervention, rehabilitation with the chronically mentally ill, and inpatient psychiatric work. In the 90s I taught several psychology courses at Northampton Community College and returned several years ago to teach once again. I have taught several other courses as well at Alvernia and Marywood Universities. I currently sit on the NASW-Eastern Division Steering Committee and am a member of the Leadership Council for NASW-PA.
I am happily married. I have two wonderful children. My son lives in Boston. He has worked for AmeriCorps and is a graduate of the University of Pittsburg. My daughter graduated from the University of Hartford. She majored in Psychology.
I have many interests. Most importantly I like spending time with family and friends. I am an avid reader. I like to read professional books, journals and magazines. I also enjoy a good novel and reading the newspaper to keep up with current events. I exercise every day and enjoy working around the house. I also love to travel and meditate. The picture of me was taken on Mt. Olympic in Washington.
I love teaching. My philosophy is that we all learn from each other. (Yes, that means I learn from you as well!) I see myself not only as a teacher, but also as a facilitator. I think students learn best when they interact with one another and can apply the concepts to themselves.
