OnlineAdjuncts - Graham, Kathryn
My name is Kathryn Graham and I'll be your instructor for the course. I have been teaching Philosophy courses since 1991, in colleges and in distance learning. I have an undergraduate degree in Journalism from American University, and a graduate degree from Georgetown University. Since I like to travel and spend time with my family, distance learning is the perfect job for me.
After spending most of my life in the Lehigh Valley, my family and I moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in 2000. This is the area of North Carolina right where all the hurricanes hit. We had planned to move south in our retirement years, but with Distance Learning, I realized that there was no reason to put things off. My daughter now lives in Philadelphia and is a beekeeper, and my son works for GOOGLE.
I was widowed a few years ago and dealt with my loss through exercise goals. I ran my first marathon and haven’t stopped running since then. I recently did remarry a wonderful man, right after both my children married. It was a busy summer. Wilmington is the filming location for a number of TV shows, so I have often been an extra on "Dawson's Creek", "One Tree Hill”, and various movies that film here, including "Iron Man 3".
One of our family hobbies when we lived in Pennsylvania was raising guide dogs for The Seeing Eye. The organization gives you an 8 week old puppy and for the next year your job is to socialize the dog and get him familiar with all sorts of situations. Yes, it is difficult to give the dog back, but it is such a wonderful gift that you are making to a person who cannot see, that you have to think about the big picture. Our first black Labrador is now with a student in Mississippi, and our second pup was returned to us due to a mild health problem. We were thrilled to get her back, and now she is ours to keep. These are wonderful dogs, bred for their intelligence, and I can't recommend this program enough. You are required to attend a monthly puppy meeting, and they have a big presence in the Lehigh Valley. Please do look at their website:www.seeingeye.org. I know it changed my life.
