Mother Nature - Aryahi Kalanuria (Central Bucks East, Tenth Grade)
Mother Nature
Long ago, the Earth was bare
Life was nonexistent, found nowhere in the endless seas and extensive landmasses
For millennia, this lifelessness was all the Earth ever knew
Until Mother Nature
Gradually, Her nurturing touch and gentle care transformed the Earth
For better, and for worse
Suddenly, there were lush plants and tiny critters
Large fish and sea creatures
They were meant to live in harmony, naturally paving the way for generations to come
A multitude of species arrived and died off, and Mother Nature sheltered each and every one of
them
Then came something peculiar
Humans
They were unique, unlike anything that had ever been seen before
They were more complex, and through thousands of years, proved this
They developed hunting patterns, homes, and soon enough, languages
They loved, and they fought
They embraced, and they killed
They traveled their way through the land Mother Nature had provided them
Some made permanent settlements, others did not
The fiercest empires known to man collapsed, leaving ruins that were shells of what they once
were
They developed religions and cultural practices that further united them
Then came technology
It would be the turning point towards the destruction of what Mother Nature had so graciously
provided
Her resources depleted at a devastating rate
The air was polluted with smoke and haze
The water with trash and toxins
The extensive forests that were once abundant began to disappear
Mother Nature let out a silent cry of despair
But the humans did not care
How much more suffering could She take?
Where was the breaking point?
Would humans ever learn to stop?
They would, when they had taken enough from Mother Nature that She had nothing else to give
And so, they would realize, that their protector and provider was no longer there to do so
There could be no change, if nothing remained to change
