A letter to my friend - Naina Krishnamurthy (George C. Marshall Highschool, 10th Grade)
To my dear friend~
What I’ve done I don’t condone,
I apologize to you and wish to atone.
I’m sorry, I cry, as the raven caws above.
To disappear, I fear six years of care and love.
The waves of blue crash over my grave,
the tune of silence filling each stave.
Laugher traded its place with fear,
nothing will take the weight of my tears.
In my dreams I see the moon of your face,
your light illuminating my heart with a trace.
My heart is a mosaic of all I’ve ever loved.
A piece splintered off, the cracked wing of a dove.
The moonlit-rain scent of your bloom remains
wafted around my room, soon to drain
out the door. Nevermore
will I take you for granted, for you are imprinted on my soul.
My friend, my counterpart, the one who shares my burden.
I’ve loved a thousand loves and lived a thousand lives,
but to reunite with you, I only strive.
