Gorillas - Isha Masina (Jack L. Weaver Elementary, Fifth Grade)
Gorillas are the largest living primates and belong to the family Hominidae. Found in the forests of central Africa, these magnificent creatures mostly inhabit dense tropical and tropical forests. There are two species: the Eastern gorilla and the Western gorilla, each with distinct differences. Gorillas are usually herbivores, feeding on leaves, bugs, bark, and fruit, and they play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping disperse seeds. Being highly social animals, they live in groups led by a dominant silverback male. Threatened by habitat loss and poaching, conservation efforts are vital to ensure the survival of these majestic beings.
