Burning Petals - Xuan Vitti (Edison High School, Tenth Grade)
I cannot forget the rain
Glistening eyes of stormy clouds
Looking
Who says you could?
Who gave you the right
To intrude in my garden of affection
And bask among the warmth of its flowers
Not realizing
Your showers nourished them
Making the petals crave each drop
Who allowed you?
To pull the dead leaves away
And present the chance to plant anew
Only to float away to water elsewhere
Soon, you say, I'll return
So I won't forget the rain
Until it furnishes this earth again
