Culture is worth paying attention to

Heritage within myself; worth in gold

Mine not a true blue; full of minutia, a Mosaic

Look closely, seas of humanity ~ dazzled like the flags of the United Nations

Vibrant and ancient all in the same measure, Alive!

Ukrainian, Thai, Irish, English and Chinese; coursing through my veins

My ancestors arrived on the shores of this new World, in waves:

1630’s, on the tall ships under the banner of the British Massachusetts Bay Colony,

1905, on the steerage class passage; fled the uprising of the Imperial Russia ruling Ukraine,

1986, on the transcontinental flight from Bangkok to NY ~ immigrated, survived and thrived,

They all laid a solid foundation under my footsteps

Tears of hardships, tears of joy ~ prevailed, each, stories shared, passed down

Life’s recipes with aromas that filled the hearts and souls

On their shoulders: Resilience, Kindness, Love, Respect, Joy and Gratitude instilled in me

They are my inner compass, core values for all time

I'm a sum of our parts; an active participant of our family's continuing rich history
