4.25.23
Hi 5th/6th Grade BHA Families!
It was so nice to be back in class catching up on all the highs of our break and gearing up for our FINAL MONTH of this school year. HOW IN THE WORLD DID THAT HAPPEN?? We had a great time discussing & learning more about roller coasters, phonographs, & creepy dolls (it was relevant to today's Science lesson, trust me!) In US History we enjoyed 4 of our Student's Year End project presentations as well as learning more about the "war of words." And in IEW we reviewed how to fuse multiple sources into one outline while reading about the Ursa Major constellation. Our fun day culminated in a Super Hero Spirit Rally where our very own Sebastien Ebiner graced the stage as our Top Reader for this year's Read-A-Thon. A fabulous day all around!
Blessings,

P.S. Our end of year Class Raffle is approaching. This is when the Students "cash" in their bank book points for raffle tickets and get a chance to earn some really cool prizes. I am asking for donations of items I can raffle off. It can be anything from a $5 In-N-Out Gift Card to a board game to some cool books or anything else you know your child and their friends would enjoy. Please email me at magda.ayala.branches@gmail.com or text me at 617.901.7722 with what you will be able to donate. I need all donations by May 9th. Your help would be so appreciated and would ensure the Students have an enjoyable and memorable end of year experience. A big thanks to those of you who have already donated. I am so thankful for you!!

Opened class with a recap of this morning's Chapel Devotion on how precious we all are to our Creator. Today's School Devotion was given by Elise Towley, Client Services Manager from Asuure Pregnancy Center. Many thanks to all who donated to this year's Assure Baby Drive. Your generosity will bless some very grateful Mommas! Lily kindly opened the class in prayer.
We spent a good chunk of the morning just sharing and catching up. Everyone was so happy to be together again and share all the wonderful memories they made over the break. It was a blessed time together!
We then kicked off our FINAL Unit in our Science text, a unit on Entertainment. We enjoyed a video on roller coasters and then were amazed by the technology Edison gave us in the phonograph. I took this to another level by sharing a video on the first talking doll, which also happened to be one of Edison's flops! These dolls were definitely more on the creepy than cute side, but they were innovative in that they included a super sized down version of the phonograph AND it was the first time women's voices were ever recorded in US history! Ask your Students about this. It was quite interesting
I answered any last minute questions about our final Science Projects which are due MAY 9th.
Reviewed homework & then dismissed class for recess.

As a reminder, homework is not mandatory. These homework assignments are provided for those families who wish to use these Branches classes as COMPLETE curriculum. The "Additional Assignments for Further Understanding" are for anyone who wants to explore the subjects further.
We started class with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Armor of God, and then Jordyn lovingly opened the class in prayer.
We reviewed our FINAL chapter in our text book, Calling America Back to God, which included a good discussion on a quote I heard on Kirk Cameron's "Takeaways" podcast this morning. It was from apologist and radio show host, Greg Koukl. He said, "Never read 'a' Bible verse." We disucssed the meaning behind this quote and how it relates to the "war of words" we read about in this final chapter. Ask your Students about this!
Four of the Students were prepared to present their final presentations today, a week early! So I allowed them. Thank you Bea, Sophia, Natalie, and Mia for sharing your hard work with us this morning. We all got to learn a little more about Pearl Harbor, the Statue of Liberty, President Biden, and Selena!
I then assigned timeline teams / tasks, which the Students will begin working on this week for homework.
Dismissed class for recess.
Finalize year end American History project, due NEXT WEEK!
Additional Assignment
Begin working on your Team's History timeline assignment. Please refer to this sheet for your Team's responsibility and an image suggestion. We will work more on this in class over the next few weeks but please begin at home. Remember to please bring whatever work you have done at home to class each week. Team Captain's, please take the lead on your Team's drawing!

I shared school announcements and then passed back everyone's Personal Letter, Part I. I asked for everyone to review my notes because they would need to be addressed and corrected before turning in the final Personal Letter, Part 3 on May 16. As a reminder, Part 2 (the Intro and Conclusion) is due on May 9th!
We reviewed how to Summarize Multiple References and then read this week's two source texts on the Great Bear constellation. We also began KWO's and then reviewed this week's vocabulary words.
Reviewed the checklist to ensure clarity.
Huddled up the class for prayer which was beautifully led by Zoe. I then prayed over everyone's individual prayer requests.
Dismissed class at 11:48 so we could enjoy our final Spirit Rally of the year!
