Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
What an egg-celent day!! Science was quite egg-citing with the Student Demonstrations of the Safe Egg inventions a few of them created. They really WOW'd me. And then impressed me even more with how well they did in today's Quiz Game! Way to go! We then spent a good amount of time working on a special Thanksgiving Time Capsule before wrapping up the day learning a new writing concept, Summarizing a Reference. The day seemed to fly by even quicker than usual. Maybe it's because our time together was so much fun... at least it was for me! I pray the same for your Students:) I also hope everyone enjoyed themselves at our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck. Thank you to ALL of you for contributing such delicious food and your precious time. BHA would not be what it is if not for such generous families.
Please see below for more detail on what we did in each class period as well as Branches Homeschool Academy announcements.

Lastly, I hope you all know that I am so grateful for each of your Students and the way they inspire me to be a better person each week. They teach me so much and I am always so excited to meet with them. While it's nice to have a little reprieve to rest and refresh over these next few weeks, I'll definitely be missing all of their smiles and eager spirits. Have a blessed Thanksgiving Break, All! See you soon!
Blessings,
Mrs. Ayala

**Please help keep the Campus clean by picking up any trash you see in the parking lots, courtyard, playground, etc. This is an important part of keeping a healthy and thriving relationship with the church! Thank you in advance.**
Today's devotion was on Colossians 2:6-7, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." We read Colossians 2:6-15 together and discussed it's meaning. We discussed how just like the church of Colossae, as a sociey we tend to be distracted with things of this world and often place them in a position in our life that is higher than our Savior Jesus Christ. Many times we even follow false teachings, which is why it is so important that we become deeply rooted in our faith, like a tree is deeply rooted. We also talked about having a heart of thanksgiving in all circumstances as we live out our faith for all to see. I asked the Students to spend some time over the next few weeks journaling all the things they are thankful for, especially thing that did not seem like a blessing at first, but looking back they can now see God's hand and providence.
I credited last week's Vocabulary homework and then we jumped into a review of Falling Bodies with a short but interesting video. We then enjoyed watching three student demonstrations of successful Egg Drop inventions! Great job Sophia, Sebastien, and Addison. Check them out HERE!
We then quickly reviewed Lesson 26 before the Students took 5min to study their Unit 4 notes.
We began our Science Quiz Game to review Unit 4 Dynamics. It was SUCH a close game. In the end, the two teams TIED! So all Students got to enjoy a piece of candy.
Asked if anyone had questions regarding the Fall Science project; no one did.
Collected last week's homework and reviewed this week's homework. Dismissed class for our 10min recess.

We started class with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a recap of today's devotion on Colossians 2:6-7. Also, Israel opened the class in a beautiful prayer. Thank you, Israel!
The Class Delegates met as a group to begin the process of writing the Class Constitution. They will continue with this project when we return.
As a class we corrected TEST 5. The Students took home their tests. Please ask them how they did. Congratulations Sebastien and Addison on a PERFECT SCORE!
We pivoted from our usual American History lesson in order to spend some time thinking about the Thanksgiving holiday. We watched this short video and then worked on a Time Capsule project. The Students were asked to write a letter to someone in the future sharing about their Thanksgiving traditions and how they celebrate. They also completed an "About Me" worksheet to add to their Time Capsule. To make it even more special, I took a polaroid of each of them to include in their "About Me" worksheet. All of these items were then placed in an envelope and then into a ziplock for them to bury or store away to give to a future generation... perhaps their grandchildren! Ask them about this. See if they'll share what they wrote, and encourage them to add some special items into their Thanksgiving Time Capsule to be unearthed maybe 100 years from now!
We also had a little Thanksgiving treat of Snickerdoodle cookies and Chocolate Chip cookies during our Time Capsule project.
Dismissed class for a 10min Recess.
The colonists were growing more anxious for independence from England. This movement was driven by the colonists’ belief that Britain was abusing its power as their government and colonists wanted to be self-governing. This idea had deep roots in North America. We saw this in the Five Nations Confederacy and the Pilgrims’ Mayflower Compact. As the cry for freedom mounted, there was widespread recognition that in order to be free and independent from England, the colonists must exercise self-control. Select one of the following verses or proverbs and write at least one paragraph sharing what God is teaching us about self-control. Bring to class for credit. NOTE: I will be using some of your writings for future class devotionals.
Complete TEST 6, Chapters 11-12 (2 pages). Bring to class for credit.
Finalize your FALL SEMESTER FINAL PROJECT. Be ready to present when you return to class on 11/29.

I shared School Announcements and then we continued working on the Time Capsule project until 11:30am.
I passed back last week's homework "Bellerophon and the Chimera" and let the Students know that a handful of them had a note asking them to RESUBMIT their work. These Students are not following the Checklist, therefore their work is considered incomplete. I will also be emailing Parents of these Students individually to check in and see if you have any questions or thoughts on how I can help your Student better understand their IEW assignments.
I read a perfect example of following the Checklist and the Story Sequence Chart. Well done, Addison!
We began Lesson 11, "Neverland" which covers a new type of writing: Summarizing a Reference with the Topic-Clincher Rule. We read the source text and discussed the key words in the Topic and Clincher sentences. Students seemed to have a solid understanding of this. Please ask them! If they did not, please let me know.
Reviewed homework and reiterated they were NOT being asked to complete the KWO nor re-write the "Neverland" paragraph. We will work on this together in class next time!
I closed class in prayer, using the multiple Student Prayer Requests as my guide. I am grateful for their willingness to share their hearts with me.
Dismissed the class to the Sanctuary to celebrate and share in our annual BHA Thanksgiving Potluck! See you in 2 weeks!
Complete only the following items from Day 2, p. 80:
Look at the topic-clincher sentences in the source text “Neverland.” Did you notice that three key words in the topic sentence are repeated in the clincher sentence? Recite & memorize the topic-clincher rule.
Complete style practice on p. 84
Cut out the vocabulary words for Lesson 11: lagoon, make-believe. Discuss their meanings and complete Vocabulary Practice on p. 85
Review the checklist on p. 86. Ensure complete understanding of each of the items. Bring any questions to class!
