Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
We began our 2nd week of class together by watching this music video which highlights our Bible verse for this week, Nehemiah 8:10! We then talked at length about the Joy of the Lord, and what that means, as well as how His Joy is our Strength. The Students spent some time journaling about this. Please ask them about this verse and what it means to them. I hope this brings good discussion within your family.
Our day included lesson reviews, homework discussions, fun science experiment stations, an exciting American History quiz game, and yearbook pictures. The day flew by for me. I'm always amazed at how quickly 3 hours pass.
Below, please find a recap of each class as well as this week's homework. Please also note that I will be out of the country with my family, returning back to the classroom on October 11th. I will miss everyone and our time together, but am so excited to show my Husband and my Girls the island that I love, the island of my homebirth (literally, I was born at home!) of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal. I'm so grateful that our Thursday 5th/6th grade teacher, Mrs. Kuntsmann, has generously agreed to cover my classroom in my absence.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email or my phone. My office hours are anytime between now and Friday at 12pm of this week. And while I am away you may contact Mrs. Kunstmann at lucyanneku@gmail.com.
Blessings,
Mrs. Ayala

The Students arrived and found their new seat assignments. I welcomed them and let them know that ASB had gifted them journals which we will use each week for Bible Devotions. Please make sure the Students bring their bible journal back to class each week. We also began this week's Bible devotion, which was on Nehemiah 8:10, "The joy of the Lord is my strength." We listed to this song as morning worship and then discussed what this verse means. They also journaled for a few minutes. Ask them about this bible verse and what they learned!
Bella R. graciously opened the class in prayer. Thank you, Bella!
I walked around and checked the Vocabulary Homework. I will add 1 bank book point into my tracker for all who completed it (which was basically the whole class!)
We watched a video on energy and then reviewed Lesson 3.They also had small group discussions on this question:If energy can not be created by any known natural processes, then where did all the energy come from? Each of the groups shared their response..... GOD! :)
Reviewed Lesson 4. We watched a video on momentum utilizing football players tackling one another, and also discussed what happens when a large football player and a small soccer player run towards each other. While some groups participated in the discussion others went to Science Experiment stations where they studied momentum using marbles and dominoes.
Collected last week's homework and reviewed this week's homework. Dismissed class for our 10min recess.

Fables teach lessons and morals. What is the moral in this fable?
What does it mean to inspire people?
Why did the soldiers consider the trumpet to be a “weapon” used against them?
Complete “Day 1”, pp. 19
Reread the source text one sentence at a time and circle two or three key words in each sentence that tell the sentence’s main idea.
Write a KWO on p. 21, using symbols, numbers, and abbreviations when possible
Using the KWO, tell the fable back to someone. Remember the process. Read. Think. Look up. Speak. If a note is unclear, check the source text and fix your note.
Be prepared to share next week in class.
