Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
The Students arrived to class full of energy and excitement! This was fitting as our day was filled with games and group projects. One of our projects even took us outside for some running. I hope everyone enjoyed our time learning about speed & velocity as well as the quiz games to review our knowledge in American History and IEW Vocabulary words. I will share, there were times when the class was getting a little loud and not as respectful as I'm so used to them being, but thankfully by IEW everyone had calmed down a bit and we were able to have a fun and productive class.
Please see below for more detail on what we did in each class period as well as Branches Homeschool Academy announcements.
Also, don't forget to scroll to the bottom for your Printable Homework link!
Have an amazing week, Families. I am so grateful to spend my Tuesday mornings with each of your kiddos!
Blessings,
Mrs. Ayala

**Please help keep the Campus clean by picking up any trash you see in the parking lots, courtyard, playground, etc. This is an important part of keeping a healthy and thriving relationship with the church! Thank you in advance.**
Today's devotion was Galatians 6:7-10 with our highlight verse being, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up," Galatians 6:9. We talked about sometimes we want to give up when things get hard but the Lord wants us to keep leaning into Him for strength. We also talked about how His words assures us a reward for doing good. I encouraged them to write in their bible journal and share with the Lord what has been challenging for them lately, what is going on that makes the want to give up. How can they press into Him so they do not become weary but in proper time will reap a harvest? Please discuss this bible verse with them and ask them their thoughts!
Bea joyfully opened the class in prayer.
We started our lesson with a quick review of Lesson 17, which we missed last week, and then the Students sat in table groups to complete a Quiz Game on Unit 2. I will announce the winners next week!
I walked around and credited everyone who did this week's vocabulary homework.
Introduced our new Unit Goals and then we went right into a review of Lessons 17 & 18, which included a video on Kinematics and an outside project to calculate Speed & Velocity. This was a fun time outside where Students had to run 10m, 25m, and 50m. We then discussed the calculation for Speed. We also discussed the Frame of Reference Worksheet they did for homework. Some kept the worksheet to take home so that you could review the Answer Key with them and discuss.
We gave a birthday cheer to Jackson, whose birthday was a few weeks back! Happy Birthday, Jacks!
Collected last week's homework and reviewed this week's homework. Dismissed class for our 10min recess.

I shared School Announcements; we highlighted our devotional for today, and then we jumped right into today's lesson.
Began class with a fun Vocabulary Word that challenged their drawing skills as well as their knowledge of our vocabulary words. The Students really seemed to enjoy this game!
I read Natalie's "The Mule & The Buyer" as an example of good use of dress-ups and vocabulary and following instructions.
Did a quick review of lesson 6; Jordyn read her 1st paragraph of "Theseus and the Minotaur" while classmates listened for checklist items.
We began Lesson 7. Discussed the jobs of paragraphs 2 + 3, and then introduced the newest style: Strong Verb, as well as the banned words say/said.
Students worked in table groups to complete the first two sections of Style Practice on p. 54.
I did NOT collect homework since they will need to add paragraphs 2 + 3 to paragraph 1.
Reviewed this week's vocabulary words, gushed and followed, as well as the homework for this week.
Bea lovingly closed the class in prayer.
Dismissed the class for the week!
PLEASE bring back the IEW homework I passed back today in class. I forgot to collect them at the end of class. I need them to add to your IEW Portfolios.
If you didn’t finish in class, complete Style Practice on p. 54
Cut out the vocabulary words for Lesson 7: gushed and followed. Discuss their meanings and complete Vocabulary Practice on p. 55.
Complete Day 3, pp. 52
Finish writing the second and third paragraphs of your myth. Remember to underline the -ly adverb, strong verb, and the first word of the who/which clause (the word who or which) in BOTH your paragraphs. Remember to use a vocabulary word and label (voc) in left margin or after sentence.
Check for banned words: say / said. Replace them with strong verbs. Underline the strong verbs.
Use one to three key words from the final sentence of the third paragraph to create a catchy title. You can change your last sentence if you need better key words. Follow the title rule.
Check off each item on the checklist as you complete it.
Turn in your rough draft to your editor (ie parent / homeschool teacher) with the completed checklist attached
Complete Day 4, p. 46
When your editor hands back your rough draft, make the needed changes. If you have not already done so, place the first paragraph that you wrote in Lesson 6 in front of the second and third paragraphs that you wrote for this lesson. The title should be placed before the first paragraph.
Paperclip the checklists from Lesson 6 & 7, final draft, rough draft, and KWO together
3-hole punch your packet of work and bring to class next week for credit
