2.28.23
Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
We had a lot of catching up to do today due to missing lessons last week in celebration of Career Day! I am thankful the Students stayed attentive and participated in today's discussions. One of the highlights of today was definitely the paper airplane demonstrations. I continue to be so impressed by our Students!
As a reminder, there is ONE WEEK left to accumulate Read-A-Thon minutes. Each Student must read a total of 300 minutes, or 30/day, in order for our class to win an Ice Cream Party. I know we can do it! Keep reading and don't forget to collect those sponsorships. Half of what your Student raises will go right back to them by covering their BHA tuition next year. It's a Win Win for everyone.
Blessings,
Mrs. AyalaHA FYI

Natalie graciously opened up the class in prayer. Thank you, Natalie!
As a reminder we are taking a break from our study on the Armor of God from Ephesians to dig into a Lent devotion from now until Easter Break. Today we discussed everyone's first week of Lent. Many Students shared something they were fasting from during the season, and some also shared offerings that they were making to the Lord. We also read this devotional, discussed it, and then I asked the Students to think about their prayer life and to journal a prayer they have prayed to the Lord and how the Lord moved.
We had a lot to cover today, beginning with Lessons 12 and 13, Jet Engines and Airplanes. We watched a video on the Bernoulli Principle and did a quick experiment to demonstrate this principle! Then, a handful of Student shared their very cool paper airplanes they made for homework. Our Top 2 Airplane Creators were Sebastion and Addison, topping the charts at 34 and 15 paper airplanes, respectively! Way to fly!
We reviewed Lesson 14, Rocket Engine, where I showed them a video of my daughers launching homemade Rockets at the Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey. If you've never been, I'd highly encourage you to take a trip there! We discussed why one Rocket launched so much further than the other (as well as the life lesson that took place when my oldest found herself extremely upset by her Baby Sister's Rocket launching much further and higher).
We will pick up next week wih Leson 15, Spacecraft, alloting time for Students to share their Spacecraft designs.
Dismissed class for recess.

I then shared an excellent example fo the Swan composition. Great job, Israel!
Sebastien and Addision both go to share their Tiger & the Tamer compositions as other Students listened for the various dress-ups and vocabulary words.
Opened Lesson 19 with an Intro Video on Peter Pan. We then reviewed goals for this week, central facts of the pictures on p. 135, this week's vocabulary words, and our newest dress-up, the #2 prepositional opener. Here is a quick video if your Student needs a refresher but to recap, the #2 prepositional opener is a way to open a sentence with a preposition + a noun. It's important to note that this noun is NOT the subject of the sentence. The test is, can the rest of the sentence stand alone as its own sentence without the prepositional opener? If so, they've done it correctly!
We reviewed homework, including the requirements of the checklist.
Zoe willingly opened the closing prayer, and I finished with the many prayer requests the Students shared with me today. I'm grateful that they feel comfortable enough to share them. God bless each of them!
See you next week!
