1.17.23
Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
We had an exciting FINAL day of the Fall Semestee, punctuated with insightful science presentations, a virtual tour of the Midwest, solid dialogue on how our country's government began, and the introduction of our final dress-up in IEW which lead to an a-ha! moment for many that just about every Disney story we know is tied to the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christen Anderson (who we'll learn about next week!)
We covered so much today. I pray your Student walked away today with some new discovery!
Blessings,
Mrs. AyalaHA FYI

Began class with a devotion on Psalm 18:1-6 where we highlighted verse 2, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety." We talked about God always protects us, including how He created the universe and the planet Earth. He protects us with the atmosphere that keeps us safe from gases or extreme sunlight that could kill us, for example. This week I asked the Students to look for all the ways the Lord protects them or to think about times when the Lord protected them in the past. Give thanks to God for being our shield, our Jehovah Magen! Jax then kindly opened the class in prayer. Thank you, Jax!
The rest of the class was used for the Fall Semester presentations. Well done, Students! I will be working on uploading a file with all of their presentation videos. Check back in later this week!
Next week we will finish up presentations with Jordyn, Bea, Israel, and Miah.
Explained that Lessons 3-4 homework that was included in the Printable Homework last week had a due date of 1.24.23, next week! So if your Student completed it all for submission today, congratulations, they have no Science homework this week, other than remembering to bring it again to class so I can collect next week! ;)
Dismissed class for our 10min recess.

We began class with the Pledge of Allegiance as well a a recap of our devotion time from the morning.
We then had an additional Science Project presentation of the Wright Brothers. This presentation tied well to this class because the brothers used multiple laws of physics to invent many things important to our country, most famously the airplane! Great job, Ethan!
We then took a Virtual Field Trip of the Midwest Region before completing the Midwest Quiz. Feel free to ask your Students about the Midwest Region. See how many states and capitals they know! They may surprise you!
The delegates then met to finalize the Class Constituation which they will present next week.
As the delegates met, we reviewed Chapter 16.
We also had 5 Students recite the Preamble to the Constitution from memory! Well done Andy, Addison, Jax, Jonlucca, and Natalie. So proud of you all! I will work on uploading a video of these amazing Students this week. Check back in!

I shared school announcements. Please see above for the details and links.
Both Jackson and Jax shared their report on Aesop as Mia and Lily listened for dress-ups, vocabulary words, and the topic-clincher rule.
Kicked off Lesson 14 with the goals of this lesson which includes the introduction of our sixth and final dress-up for the year (can you believe it!), the www.asia clause (p. 104)
Here is a bullet point review of this 6th dress-up for your benefit, as I'm sure your Student will have some questions:
A www.asia clause begins with when, while, where, as since, if, although.
To indicate a www.asia clause, underline only the first word of the clause: when, while, where, as, since, if although.
A www.asia clause contains a subject and a verb.
Jakob and Wilhelm attended the same schools when they grew up.
They succeeded since their family helped them.
A www.asia clause is added to a sentence that is already complete.
Jakob and Wilhelm attended the same schools when they grew up.
They succeeded since their family helped them.
If a www.asia clause follows a complete sentence, no comma is needed.
If you need additional help understanding this or if your Student is still unclear, please watch this video (just note that you actually do NOT need commas and you only need to underline the first word of the clause)
Together we completed the www.asia clause practice exercises on p. 104
We also reviewed the defintions of our new vocabulary words, devoted and publish. Together we completed the practice exercises on p. 105.
Read The Brother's Grumm story on p. 102. Discussed it's meaning, including the interesting or important factst that the Students will include in their report.
Reviewed the checklist on p. 106 to ensure everyone understood expectations.
Gathered in a circle as I prayed over today's prayer requests prior to dismissing for the week. Each week I am so grateful for the Students' willingness so share their requests!
Complete the Style Practice exercises on pp. 105
Using your KWO and your style practice work, begin writing one paragraph about the Brothers Grimm. Follow the checklist on p. 106.. When you reach the end of your KWO, create a clincher sentence that repeats or reflects the key words placed on the topic line beside the Roman numeral.
Complete Day 3, p. 102
Finish writing your 1-paragraph report
Check off each item on the checklist as you complete it. Underline the dress-ups that are required on the checklist. Highlight or bold 2 or 3 key words that repeat or reflect in the topic and clincher sentences. Create a catchy title.
Turn in your rough draft to your editor (ie parent / homeschool teacher) with the completed checklist attached
Complete Day 4, p. 102
When your editor hands back your rough draft, make the needed changes.
Paperclip or staple the checklist, final draft, rough draft, and KWO together
3-hole punch your packet of work and bring to class next week for credit
Prepare for next week’s Lesson by reading pp 109-110. Mark 4 to 5 important or interesting facts in each paragraph.
