11.1.22
Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
Today our Science studies involved 3 different experiments to study the first two laws of fellow Bible believer, Isaac Newton! We watched the movement of a ball when inside a wagon being pulled, we studied intertia and gravity at play with a card and coin, and we observed how roller skates accelerate depending on the force applied, which we then manipulated with a can of soup! Our American History studies was filled with wonderful presentations of some of our American heroes who were first and foremost our brothers in Christ. And lastly, in IEW we learned a new Style, the because clause, as we discussed our latest Greek myth, "Bellerophon and Chimera."
Please see below for more detail on what we did in each class period as well as Branches Homeschool Academy announcements.

Today's devotion was Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." We had a good discussion about what it means to be anxious and then discussed how much the Lord wants to meet us in those moments which cause us anxiety. We talked about the power of prayer and the importance of giving thanks. Please ask your Student what they thought about today's devotional and encourage them to write in their bible journal a prayer of petition and thanksgiving. Encourage them to share the things that make them anxious directly with the Lord. Maybe even share some of your own anxieties with your Student. Remind them of your humanity.
Jordyn opened our class in a gentle prayer. Thank you, Jordyn!
Began our lesson with a 6min Table Quiz on Unit 3, Kinematic. I will announce the table winners next week!
Checked off homework assignments and then reviewed the goals for Unit 4, Dynamics.
We jumped right into the First Law of Motion. We did 2 different experiments to show what happens to an object at rest when an opposite force is applied. We then reviewed the Second Law of Motion and obeserved F = MxA in action using roller skates, a hammer, and a can of soup. Ask your Students about these experiments!
Also, while some table groups were working on an experiment, the rest of the Students were working on a "Newton" comic strip. I'm so excited to check them all out this week. The majority of the Students really seemed to have enjoyed this!
Directed Students to the link on our class webpage that details their Fall Final Science Projects. Asked them to review this with you this week for homework.
Reviewed this week's homework. Dismissed class for our 10min recess after Ethan kindly closed our class in prayer. Thank you, Ethan!

Some presentations involved more of the personal side of these heroes, while others focused on their resume. Each presentation was unique and interesting, just like each of the presenters!
We then talked at length about Election Day, November 8th... NEXT WEEK! I answered a lot of questions, but if anyone still needs more info, please text, call, or email me by Friday afternoon. About half of the class is placing their name on the ballot, which is exciting!

I shared two excellent examples of the IEW work I expect. I spent a good amount of time sharing my expectations, and truly hope this helps! If your Student has ANY questions or needs clarity on their IEW assignments, please call, text, or email me. I would be happy to help! BHA is also holding an IEW Workshop THIS THURDAY morning on campus. Feel free to sign up if you feel your family could use a better understanding of the IEW methods.
We watched a video on "Daedalus & Icaurus" before Jordyn shared her write-up as fellow students listened for the checklist items.
We began Lesson 9 which includes our newest dress-up, because clause. We read our next myth, "Bellerophon and Chimera," discussed it, and then began the KWO as well as the style practice. Students will finish both of these for homework!
Reviewed this week's vocabulary words, Chimera and bridled, as well as the homework for this week.
All the Students helped clean up the classroom, which was spear headed by Sebastien. This was so helpful to me. Thank you!
I closed class in prayer, using the multiple Student Prayer Requests as my guide. I am thankful for their willingness to share these petitions with me.
Dismissed the class for the week!
Using the Story Sequence Chart questions, finish your KWO for the "Bellerophon and Chimera” myth on page 69. Remember, you will choose key words by asking questions about the story, not by taking key words from each sentence.
