Hello 5th/6th Grade BHA Families,
Happy Election day! Candidates came prepared with compelling campaign speeches, creative posters, and some even brought in tasty treats to entise their constituents. Everyone enjoyed the process and, in the end, a delegation was formed. Great job, Students! In Physical Science we experienced Newton's Third Law of Motion as well as Gravitational Pull with some simple but fun experiments. And in IEW we spent one more week reviewing the process of Retelling Narratives with the Story Sequence Chart. I pray the Students went home today ready to share all the details with you. Please also scroll down for more information, as well as important Branches Homeschool Academy announcements.

**Please help keep the Campus clean by picking up any trash you see in the parking lots, courtyard, playground, etc. This is an important part of keeping a healthy and thriving relationship with the church! Thank you in advance.**
Today's devotion was 2 Corinthians 9:11, "You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." We discussed how God enjoys a cheerful giver and what that means. And we talked about how it's so much easier to be generous when you have a grateful heart. I shared a story with them of what happened to me this morning when the Lord reminded me that I had skipped over quiet time with him before starting my day. He generously showed His love for me once I did stop and fellowship with Him. And He used my coffee cup to do so. Ask them about this (and then scroll to the very bottom!)
I opened the class in prayer, covering our nation as we head to the voting polls today! "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!" (Psalm 33:12)
Checked and credited the Vocabulary homework and then I announced last week's Quiz Table Winners.... Miah, Israel, and Jordyn. Congratulations! I also passed back last week's Newton's comic strips they worked on. Please ask them to show you and explain it to you!
We watched a video on Newton's Third Law of Motion, reviewed the chapter, and then did a simple experiement using balloons. The Students had fun here!
We then reviewed Lesson 24 on Gravity and used a book, a pen, and some paper to determine that heavier objects do not necessarily fall the ground faster.
We discussed our Fall Final Science project. Please make sure your Student is clear on their options. Projects are due in January.
Reviewed this week's homework which includes a special Additional Assignment that requires your help. Dismissed class for our 10min recess.

We started class with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a recap of today's devotion on 2 Corinthians 9:11.
We then went right into the class campaigns! You can view all of their campaign speeches HERE . I thought they all did an excellent job. Each week I am more and more impressed by their confidence, poise, and love for the Lord. Well done!!!
Everyone voted for 4 delegates as well as the class seal. CONGRATULATIONS Addison, Andrew, Miah G, and Natalie, as well as Israel, our Runner Up. You are our new delegates who will meet over the next few weeks to develop our Class Constitution. More info to come! Also CONGRATULATIONS to Addison, the designer of our new CLASS SEAL. Bravo!
Also, while I tallied the votes the Students worked on a few Veterans Day activities, which they took home to finish. I also shared a little bit about my stepson Jakob, who served in the USMC for 5 years. If you or anyone in your family is a Veteran, THANK YOU and GOD BLESS You for your service! Also, I tried to show this Veteran's Day video in class, but the volume was not working. Please share with your Students!

I quickly shared School Announcements; we highlighted our devotional for today
I shared an excellent example of the previous week's IEW's composition from "Daedaulus & Icarus" and then we went right into hearing a student example of "Bellepheron & Chimera" as fellow students listened for the checklist items.
We watched a video on our newest myth "Damon & Pythia" and discussed its meaning, especially as it relates to the Gospel.
We began Lesson 10 which includes additional banned words and then worked on the Style Practice for this week's homework assignment. Students will complete the KWO and the Style Practice for homework.
We ended class a little early so the Students could help tidy up the classroom in preparation for today's rainy day schedule which immediately converts our classroom to the lunch / recess area.
We closed class in prayer and dismissed for the week!
Using the Story Sequence Chart questions, complete your KWO for the "Damon and Pythias” myth on page 75. Remember, you will choose key words by asking questions about the story, not by taking key words from each sentence.
If you did not finish in class, complete the Style Practice exercises on pp. 76-77.
Complete Day 3, pp. 73
Complete the rough draft of your 3-paragraph myth. Underline four words in EACH paragraph: -ly adverb, strong verb, first word of the who/which clause (the word who or which), and the first word of the because clause (the word because)
Use one to three key words from the final sentence of the third paragraph to create a catchy title. You can change your last sentence if you need better key words. Follow the title rule.
Check off each item on the checklist as you complete it.
Turn in your rough draft to your editor (ie parent / homeschool teacher) with the completed checklist attached
Complete Day 4, p. 72
When your editor hands back your rough draft, make the needed changes.
Paperclip the checklist, final draft, rough draft, and KWO together
3-hole punch your packet of work and bring to class next week for credit
Memorize: “ Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13.” Students who are able to recite it from memory next week will earn 5 bank book points.
