MEALS
At this time, we do not recommend the freezing of any Factor meals. Please know, our meals last up to 7 days in the fridge, and we ship in insulated boxes with specially designed gel packs to keep your meals fresh for you to enjoy.
Although we don't recommend freezing your meals, but if you do, it will lengthen the shelf life of the meals and it can result in loss of flavor, and freezer burn.
ADD ON
At this time, we do not recommend the freezing of any Factor add ons. Please know, some of our add ons do last longer than our standard meal 7 day range. In this case, you will always find the best by date located on the specific add on you receive.
If the customer asks why they should not freeze the product or has concerns, use the talking point below:
Our meals are fully prepared fresh, never frozen so we currently do not provide recommendations surrounding freezing longevity. We always recommend enjoying each product fresh as intended.
Factor meal sleeves contain the following phrase: “Intended to enjoy fresh. Freezing is not recommended."
We are required to inform any inquiring customers that we do not recommend freezing any Factor products.
All of our meals are delivered to you in completely BPA-free CPET individual plastic containers.
CPET stands for Crystallizable Polyethylene Terephthalate. These plastics are safe for food storage as well as heating in the microwave or oven. They are also designated as recyclable 1, so go ahead and put them in the recycling bin after you've enjoyed the meals.
Yes. All of our meal packaging is completely PSAF and BPA free. We use CPET plastic containers! CPET stands for Crystallizable PolyEthylene Terephthalate. These plastics are safe for food storage as well as heating in the microwave or oven. They are also designated as recyclable 1, so go ahead and put them in the recycling bin after you've enjoyed the meals.
We at Factor put the health and safety of our consumers above all else and safety and quality of cooking and packaging our meals is of paramount importance in ensuring this.
PET trays are produced using a process called thermoforming, which subjects the PET plastic to temperatures between 280oF and 325oF – similar to the temperatures used to make UHT Shelf stable milk boxes. All pathogens (food poisoning bacteria) are killed at these temperatures preventing the packages from being a source of food related illness.
If you choose to reuse our trays It may be difficult to know if you have fully cleaned and eliminated any bacteria that may have been in your home which could then be a source of concern for you and your family. We recommend washing our trays and all dish washer safe plastics and porous materials (like cutting boards) on a Hot Water, Sanitize or Steam cycle if possible. Also, in order to make the PET food grade, they must appease the standards of the FDA. On top of that the crystallized PET goes through an even higher temperature process which further sterilizes the plastic. PET and crystallized CPET have been used for food-grade products and has been approved by the FDA for many, many years.
My tray melted
Appropriate actions for agent: Use the talking points provided in this article. Proceed to credit the customer for the impacted tray/meal and close out the interaction depending on the channel/specific situation
General Response:
I am so sorry for the issue you are experiencing, and I would like to assure you that we have not heard any similar feedback regarding our trays. In order to further investigate this concern, I'm hoping you can provide me with some additional details.
Ask probing questions to help identify the root cause:
Which meals were impacted by this and what are the steps you took in heating the meals?
NOTE: If they heated it in the oven, they cannot use a convection or turbo oven/convection oven settings and must completely remove the plastic film on the meal when heating in a standard oven. This could have caused the tray to melt if it was inside the oven long enough at a high temperature due to poor ventilation and extreme temperatures
Did you heat the meals in a convection oven? / What type of oven did you heat the meals in?
Additionally, do you have any photos of the affected meal after you heated it?
Please know that our team's obligation is to safeguard our customers and thereby operate a kitchen where meals are always safe to eat. Our primary concern is that the food we serve is prepared to the very highest standards using quality products and ingredients.
For additional pushback if the customer persists: "I'm upset. Why did this happen / How could this happen." or "Should I be concerned?"
In addition to the talking point above, here are additional talking points you can provide related to this scenario:
Express empathy and provide reassurance:
We're so sorry again to hear of any inconvenience. Rest assured it's never our intention for any issues as we always wish for you to have a flawless experience from start to finish with your Factor meals. I'm happy to confirm we've not altered the material of our containers, and we currently use CPET containers completely free of BPA and PFAS chemicals as our customer's safety is top priority.
If they are super concerned regarding the safety, continue using some of the talking points at the top of this article specific to their concern. For example:
