Organic
At this time, we do not utilize organic ingredients within our meals. Please know, we always take care to use high quality ingredients and provide full transparency on our menu. When viewing our menu, simply click on the meals to view the full list of ingredients. Remember, you always have the full ability to update the meals coming to you every week and choose meals that are right for you.
Trans-Fat
Yes, there are small amounts of trans fats found in our meals but these are all naturally occurring. Naturally occurring trans fats are formed when rumen bacteria in the stomachs of ruminant animals (cows, sheep, etc.) digest the grass the animal has eaten and form trans-rumenic and trans-vaccenic acid via biohydrogenation of polyunsaturated fats in the grass. Conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, is a trans-rumenic acid that is found in meat and dairy products. It is also produced in our bodies from the conversion of trans-vaccenic acid (VA) from those same animal products.
Industrial trans fats have slightly different chemical structures than those trans fats found in beef and butter (specifically, the location of the double bond). CLA contains both cis- and trans- bonds, whereas most industrial trans fats have only trans bonds. These minor differences in structure lead to majorly different effects in the body, as has been shown in many clinical and epidemiological studies. While industrial trans fats are shown to increase the risk of heart disease, cancer, and obesity, CLA and other trans fats found naturally in animal products are actually thought to decrease the risk of those diseases.
Sodium
The sodium content of our meals can be viewed on the nutrition facts label. Currently, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends consuming 2,300 mg of sodium or less per day for healthy adults. Factor’s meals average around 800 mg of sodium per meal, which can help you stay within this recommendation. However, we do not have low sodium meals at this time. We always recommend speaking with your doctor prior to ordering our meals to ensure we are a good fit.
If you are looking for the lowest possible sodium meals, simply click on the meals to determine the sodium content on the nutrition facts label. Remember, you always have the full ability to update the meals coming to you every week and choose meals that are right for you.
Sugar
The majority of sugar in our meals comes from naturally-occurring sugars in the ingredients we use, such as the sugar inherent to fruits, veggies, and dairy products. We do occasionally add minimal amounts of non-refined sugars to enhance the flavor of our meals. Non-refined sugars, such as honey, molasses, and maple syrup, contain minerals that are normally removed from refined sugars. To determine the sugar content of each meal, click on the photo of the meal to locate the nutrition facts label.
Fat
Dietary fat is an essential nutrient that plays many vital roles within the body. Dietary fat takes longer to digest, which can leave you feeling fuller for longer and may provide you with longer-lasting energy. Here at Factor, we focus on using high-quality fats and limit inflammatory fats, such as corn oil and safflower oil.
Please note, the fat content is higher in the meals marked as keto. Keto meals are designed to be high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates. If you’re looking for lower fat meals, be sure to check out our dairy-free options!
Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a type of fat that is essential for the structure of cell membranes, hormone production, vitamin D synthesis, and digestion of bile acids. Whether we eat cholesterol-containing foods or not, our body produces its own cholesterol naturally!
Dietary cholesterol intake has very little impact on our serum cholesterol and research has shown that dietary cholesterol intake is not necessarily correlated with blood cholesterol levels in healthy individuals. For this reason, the most current version of the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans does not have a recommendation for limiting dietary cholesterol intake. To determine the cholesterol content of each meal, click on the photo of the meal to locate the nutrition facts label.
Saturated Fat
Saturated fats are a type of fat found in many foods, such as nuts and seeds, dairy products, meats, oils, and lesser amounts in certain fruits and veggies.
It is important to note that some of our meals do contain a high amount of saturated fat, and these meals typically fall under the ketogenic preference. If you are limiting your saturated fat intake, we recommend choosing from our dairy-free options, which are naturally lower in saturated fat!
Food Additives
We completely understand your concerns, which is why we put a significant focus on choosing quality ingredients and extensively researching the human health impacts and functional mechanisms of these ingredients prior to using them in our meals.
These ingredients are used to help maintain the quality and safety of foods. Most importantly, they help to decrease risk of contamination from foodborne illnesses. Each of these ingredients has a specific function that is studied, regulated and monitored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). All of these ingredients have been approved by the FDA, which involves determining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), or limiting the amount of their use in food to achieve the desired result.
Gelatin
At this time, the gelatin that is used within our meals is pork-derived.
Grass-Fed and Grass-Finished
All of our ingredients are sourced from a few, carefully selected vendors to ensure the quality and consistency of the meals. The majority of our ingredients are sourced within the United States. The quality and freshness of all of our meat is of primary importance to us, and a part of our commitment to our customers is that all of our food is sustainably and humanely grown and produced.
At this time, our protein is not grass-fed.
