Events/ Trooping
When wearing your outfit at a Convention or other event, whether you like it or not, you are an ambassador of Star Wars. You will not only meet other costumed enthusiasts of the franchise, but also people who are – or not- connected with it. Trooping requires a little knowledge of some basic rules:
When trooping in a crowded or public place, try not to block or obstruct traffic when posing for photos or just hanging out with your friends. Be courteous, respect people’s personal space.
Especially younger kids can’t always distinguish between fantasy and reality. They might not take you as some guy in a homemade costume, but as the character you’re dressed as and get excited. As long as they don’t kick or abuse you, try to act like the hero they think you are.
You will be asked a lot of questions like “Where did you get that?” or “What’s it made of?”. You might hear the same bad jokes over and over, too. Even if this gets old after a while, as long as they are not rude to you, be nice and answer their questions. Usually, Mandalorians command a good deal of respect from other people, but before a conversation turns into an argument, walk away; don’t get aggravated.
Face masks, helmets and prop weapons do irritate people, especially those who are charged with the protection of people and property. Police or Security have been called before to check out “an armed suspect in a strange costume”. They meet a lot of strange folk in their line of work and like to be extra careful or even get jumpy when they hear the words “armed”, “weapon” or “gun”. If you do end up being stopped by law enforcement officers, don’t give them a reason to fear for their safety. Follow their instructions with slow, deliberate movement and explain to them that you are not carrying any real weapons, only theatrical props that are not dangerous.
Blasters are an important part of the Star Wars saga. However, usually Conventions have specific rules about what kind of weapon props may be brought to the event, which materials are permitted etc. Then there are Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Under no circumstance should you bring a real weapon to a Convention or violate gun safety protocol. Toy Blasters, rubber or resin models and 3D prints are usually okay to bring. The safer the better.
Even at a Convention, many costumed people do not role-play, they enjoy wearing a costume. Since you can never predict how someone is going to react, don’t expect total strangers to engage in your efforts to role-play. Especially if your character is a robust warrior or even a villain, do not scare or mistreat them.
IMPORTANT
When asked to pose for photos, be smart and don’t stage executions or other acts of violence with fellow costumers or members of the public – even if they request it. A Slave Leia/Hut-Slayer Leia costumer might not enjoy having their chain yanked and the minimal costume of a dancer or Twi’lek does not give anyone the right to touch them inappropriately.
Sexual violations come in lots of shapes and forms and cannot be tolerated. Just don’t do it.
Gore should be avoided as well. While trophies can add cool details to a costume, stay away from carrying a severed Ewok head with you. Unnecessary gore should be avoided. Your actions and costume should be family safe and appropriate at all times.
Gore is not allowed. Gore (for the purposes of club standards) is defined as any blood, intestine, bone, sinew, or other severed body parts from sentient creatures, either human or alien. Skulls, scales, leather, skin, and bones from non-sentient creatures are permissible, but check with leadership to ensure what you plan to use will be acceptable under this clause. Example: Severed Twi'lek lekku? No. Rancor jawbone? Perfectly fine. If it comes from something you can talk to and who can talk back, it's an automatic no.
While you are in kit in public, you are representing the Mandalorian Protectors. Please behave like a respectful and responsible adult. Roughhousing and conduct unbecoming a member of the Club is not acceptable.
Our members are all 18+, and sometimes language can get a bit spicy. Please keep language PG rated when trooping in public.
Drunkenness/intoxication in kit is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Violation of this rule may result in removal from the Club.
Use or possession of illegal drugs while in kit is absolutely prohibited and will result in removal from the Club.
This should go without saying, but racism and other such discriminatory practices have no place here. This rule constitutes a zero tolerance policy and may result in removal from the Club.
