All participants at Guild of Darkness events are required to uphold the spirit of the game. Referees are available to both keep everyone playing these rules but also facilitate the story and direction the game goes. Therefore, Referees are given certain allowances to bend some rules to enhance the positive role-play experience, as long as it doesn’t negatively affect any player involved. Ultimately the aim of live role-playing is to have fun but we do ask that no players actively role-play a character or situation that would upset another OOC.
In the end, these rules are put in place aid to your role-playing. However, please be aware that breaking these rules, whether intentionally or not, is cheating and this is considered a very serious offence. A first offence is likely to generate a warning; further offences could ultimately lead to you being banned from future events.
To keep within Health and Safety guidelines, physical restraint and force should never be used at events. In the event that such actions are required, you should ask the participating players to role play the effects safely without physical action or restraint.
At Guild of Darkness events, there are two areas in which characters are considered In Character; the faction camp and the gaming area. When travelling to and from gaming areas, characters should keep one arm clearly in the air until they are told by a present Referee to move back IC. Other areas, such as toilet areas, are always considered Out Of Character areas unless otherwise stated.
Games Control is an OC area designed to help players during the events and facilitate any needs or queries they may have. Games Control is used for training, character advancement, item purchasing or any out of character concerns/questions.
Referees are used to facilitate the game. They wear high vis jackets and are available during the game as a more hands on alternative to going to Games Control. They also are there to ensure the rules and regulations are followed at all times. However, players should always defer to a Referee for rules queries and in game effects.
