Alchemists and Forgers of all skills are welcome to experiment with new mixtures of elements up to their skill level at any time during an event when the respective crafting desk has an NPC or Referee present.
Experimentation may result in side effects.
Experimentation takes twice the crafting time of known recipes, and if successful, will use up a slot of the appropriate level.
If a crafter discovers a previously unknown recipe, they may choose a name for it, pending approval of the Head Alchemist/Forger.
In order for a newly discovered recipe to be taught to another character, both players will need to use a slot of the appropriate level.
All Alchemists are able to determine the contents of a potion or poison using the three digit code marked on it. Non-alchemists cannot tell this themselves.
Any person may use a potion and receive the effects, but only Alchemists are able to make them. Potions of the same type do not stack to increase the strength or duration of an effect. Only one offensive potion effect (Example: Potion of Strength) may be active on a character at any time and only one defensive potion effect (Example: Potion of Armour) may be active on a character at any time.
Only one potion that remains in effect until used or until the next dawn may be active on a character at any time, and is not affected by the use of other potions. Potions that emulate damage effects can only be applied to melee weapons.
Potions must be drunk by a willing party whereas poisons can be applied to weapons with Concentration. The effects of the poisons are applied to the next target successfully struck. This uses up the poison. Only one poison may be applied to a weapon at a time, and they will only remain active on the weapon for ten minutes before they spoil.
In order to create potions a character with the appropriate skill must use the Alchemist Desk to merge certain Elements together to make the potion/poison. Each element is represented by beads in containers on the Alchemist Desk. These beads represent magical nuggets of the element. In order to create a potion, the character must use the correct amount of each element required for the specific potion. Role play is encouraged when doing this. An Alchemy trained NPC or Referee must be present when brewing, and you then pass the cauldron to that designated NPC on the desk, who will check your work against the list of recipes. If the amount of elements used is correct, they will then issue you with the correct potion/poisons (represented by a bottle with a three digit code). If the recipe is wrong, adverse effects of the failed creation may take place, which the NPC will inform you of.
Multiple potions of the same kind can be brewed simultaneously. Once completed, the character may carry a phys-rep of the potion/poison until use.
These elemental nuggets are IC items and can be stolen!
There are six Elements to choose from when making potions/poisons;
· Earth
· Fire
· Water
· Air
· Death
· Life
Basic potions require 5 beads, and take 1 minute each to brew.
Advanced potions require 10 beads and take 2 minutes each to brew.
Masterful potions require 15 beads and take 3 minutes each to brew.
Characters with the appropriate skills can make weapons and armour. Making these items must be done in a designated area and requires 5 minutes of uninterrupted role-play. Once completed, the character must attach the correct lammie to a phys-rep of that item.
In order to create items a character must use the Smithy to forge certain Elements into items, giving them magical qualities. These elements are:
· Earth
· Fire
· Water
· Air
· Death
· Life
Each element is represented by beads available from the Alchemist Desk. These beads represent magical nuggets of the element. In order to create an item, the character must use the correct amount of each element required for the specific item. Role play is encouraged when doing this. An NPC will them inspect your work and the elements used. If the amount of elements used is correct, they will then issue you with the correct lammie. If the recipe is wrong, adverse effects of the failed creation may take place, which the NPC will inform you of.
